The reason behind its marvellous design is closely related to the hot and arid environments it is used to living in. The patchy skin is a manifestation of thermoregulatory mechanism that helps it maintain its temperature in these harsh weather conditions. Underneath each patch lies an obscure inter-venous network of blood vessels and glands, which act as a channel that allows blood to flow acting as a medium that helps in releasing body heat.

Each pattern on their skin are much like our fingerprints - unique in its design. While it was thought that giraffes didn't make any sound, contrary to the popular belief, it makes bellow and flute-like sounds.
