We live in a time in which a rapid expansion of consciousness is possible for us. The tools are here for everyone. But expanding our consciousness takes focus and will, and many people aren't interested.
Mainstream culture is like a drug.

Some of the things that people partake in and give their attention to are a hindrance to the expansion of their consciousness. If one involves themselves in mainstream media or pays a lot of attention to news and pop culture, expansion of consciousness isn't really possible. Mainstream media and pop culture are at a very low frequency. They're at mostly the frequency of fear and scarcity. It's like a big net. It catches you and pulls you in to the mass group think. When one is in group think, they cannot be clear and inspired or even joyful. In order to be joyful, you have to be clear and in tune with your own self and your own being. Your mind has to be allowed to explore. That's why meditation and time in nature are so important. Making art is important for the expansion of consciousness.
While mainstream consciousness is advancing to a degree, it's nothing but a hindrance when so many tools are available to you for your growth. We can only advance as much as what we focus on. The people you spend your time with, the movies and shows you watch, what you read, who you follow on social media, how much time you spend meditating and doing anything that uplifts you like exercising or being in nature or making art, all dictate how much you're expanding your consciousness.
The more we expand our consciousness, the freer we become - the more we're able to choose. The less conscious we are, the more we're at the mercy of fear, our programmed thoughts and beliefs, the behavior of other people. Life will take us for a ride. The more conscious we become, the more we become conscious creators. It feels good to be clear. It feels good to be subtle enough to choose our own beliefs and choose the course of our lives. It feels good to feel connected to loving nonphysical energy. It feels good to be inspired.

When we expand our consciousness, we become subtler. As your consciousness expands, you'll start to notice how dense many people are. Low level consciousness is like a rock. Higher level are big and expansive. There's more room in your being. Your being is airy, and flow-y. When a person is trapped in lower level consciousness, they're very small. Not much is getting in. Their lives are very small. They're not able to make much of an impact on the world. They can't tap into creative energy.
Consciousness expands from the time of birth. But many people stop evolving at an adolescent level of consciousness. Fear and scarcity are what keep people locked and dense. The status quo will keep you locked. You have to make a conscious effort and pioneer your own way to real growth. It's a solitary experience. It's not a race to expand your consciousness. There's nowhere you have to be. But it is a fun, satisfying, and enjoyable ride to open up and up and up and up. Expansion is what we're here for.
Everyone's capable of high levels of consciousness and peak spiritual experiences, but the evolution of consciousness unfolds in its own time. You can't skip stages. One stage isn't better than the other one. They just are. And we all coexist in many different stages of consciousness together on one planet, co-creating this experience.
I have one word of advice for you: get your mind out of pop culture. Not completely. Stream your few shows that you like to watch. Keep your mind out of the news and what mainstream society is doing. If you focus on what mainstream society is doing, you're going to stay at that level. Focus on things that are expansive and get you in touch with you and less in touch with what mainstream culture is doing.

Sounds like a lot of Ken Wilber's work and Spiral Dynamics could apply to this!

Omg amazing! I'm so incredibly biased because I've read so many of his books but I really think his work helps so many people. Who is your healer/teacher?

That's awesome! I haven't delved into his work much, to be honest. I only know a little bit about his work in levels of consciousness, but they're a great jumping off point for me. I have his book No Boundary, and I think it's absolutely brilliant. He sure can put together a good explanation of a concept! How long have you been into his work?
Simon Senzon is my healer.

I also enjoyed No Boundary, I think it's a good introduction to non-dualism. I think that book was heavily influenced by Alan Watts and I really appreciated the deep technical dive of KW (although I'll always love the storytelling of AW.)
Ken's early work is great, his newer books (and by new, I guess I mean anything after 1995 lol) assume the reader has a decent understanding of Integral Theory and its ramifications/applications.
Have you read The Atman Project ? IMO that's probably the best intro book of his to read on human development.
I started reading him in 2005 actually, when I discovered his commentary on The Matrix film. There was no good starting point for me to find for his work back then, so I just had to trust I was reading something brilliant, even though I didn't understand most of it, and keep going.
I went ahead and read this: http://simonsenzon.com/biography/ - anything of his you'd recommend?
Nice chatting and my apologies for the long message, I always love meeting the few peeps out there that are familiar with Ken Wilber!

Aint this the truth. We can hardly find the space for beauty and truth with all of that hogwash swirling around in our consciousness can we?
I guess it boils down to a willingness to change habits and run experiments on our lives/selves.
Thanks for sharing an amazing article! I think this could be informative for a few friends of mine :P

Ha ha. Well we can! Like I said, people just have to get their noses out of what happens in the mainstream. Truly! It's a life changer.
