I didn't get round to watching it until 1981, but that VHS and the rest (EU) really hit me.
It had been called "A New Hope", but the most hopeful SW ever made me feel were the most hopeless instalments. Rogue One and Andor? There was no reason for them (the heroes) to feel it, but they fought all the same, and the audience knows the consequence.
I often feel that all of my advocacy is for nothing at all. That I'm having no real impact, but at least I can say I tried.. which is all that makes it worth it because it's the best that's possible. Looking into the eyes of children, who are the greatest likely victims of current government action.. "I did what I was able when I could" while ultimately failing is better than giving up for my soul.
But I'm finishing up Andor, and who knows. "I burn my life to make a sunrise I know I'll never see." While the world seems content on sacrificing the future for the present, the future ain't set yet.
It's always possible we could stop fucking them for selfish, short-sighted reasons, and leave the world a better place for them to make even brighter.
