I probably don't have any right to have an opinion on the shenanigans that are currently going on with Steem (Steemit) given I stopped posting last year? I'm not voting for any witnesses because:
- A. I don't know any of them.
- B. As far as I know, no witness has done anything for me?
- C. I can't entirely agree with the attempted coup that is going on.
If the current actions are genuinely about "Doing the right thing." and upholding some perceived view of what the community should be then taking what is in effect a militant stance is not the way to go about it. I also find it hysterical that witnesses and users are happy to let people join and stay on Steem who are already big hitters on Youtube, Instagram etc. who have only joined the platform to bleed it and their followers dry (I have one or two specific users in mind) and yet Justin, who is accused of supposedly attempting to do the same thing with sock puppet accounts is not only vilified but the community is trying to overthrow significant shareholders. As always with this type of thing, there are probably a lot of users who are too scared to say what they truly feel and even more who are possibly sheep and just following the crowd.
Having said all that, if @steevc put himself up for withness I'd vote for him because he has always been a robust, consistent and loyal supporter of my account. We may well disagree on one or two things, but friendships transcend all the stuff.

Since you trust @steevc, you should set him as your witness voting proxy.

But how do I know the people @steevc trusts are my kind of people? Clearly Steve's friendship choices are pretty suspect, after all, he's friends with me for pity's sake!

I have met a few of the witnesses and they are decent guys (not many ladies that I know of). Most of them are not making a profit on running their servers, but they believed in what Steem could be.
Analogies to Linux or buses don't really work. Blockchains are a radical concept. Satoshi is a genius. There are lots of different implementations with various concepts. The Steem version was good in being quick, free and giving anyone the opportunity to earn. The use of 'ownership' would not have arisen if Steemit and Justin could not control so much Steem and use it to stage a coup, but it was a risk. Ideally you should rely on technical measures to keep it decentralised, but there has to be some trust in this case. The lack of that led to the current situation. People are the weak point.

The concept, argument, defence mechanism of the word "Blockchain" clearly doesn't hold any water. It's pretty obvious to most people that Steem generates cryptocurrency and the one with the most coins, in this instance, Steem Dollars, runs the show. If this is not true then I demand an explanation from a witness why people cannot be kicked off or denied access to the Blockchain or their accounts especially when the current situation demonstrates that in fact, it is possible.
P.S. I lied in my "I'm not voting post" I just voted for @partiko simply because I got more votes in the time I was a member of that than the whole time I was on Steemit. LOL
P.P.S. Is it possible for mere mortals to create Groups or Communities?

Partiko seems to be a dead project, which is a shame. The lack of growth of Steem makes it hard for projects to get by.
Anyone can create a community for 3 Steem. I've made a couple.

Hmm? Was thinking of creating a @Partiko community and seeing if the users wanted to join that seeing as the project appears to be abandoned.

Centralized or Decentralized has nothing to do with it. What is going on at the moment is about Control it is about who controls the blockchain. It makes no difference if one individual owns it or a bunch of people. I don't like coups because history teaches us that in most takeovers the wrong people gain control.
