Deactivating old accounts, on steemit I currently have 934 followers yet a the vast majority of these accounts never see my posts, Why do I think this is? Because most of my followers are long gone, on to the next thing, they know longer post on steemit or browse the site and they haven't for a while now.
I am proposing one of two things.
- Either steemit users are able to remove inactive steemians from
following them after they have not visited the site in say five
months because know one needs inactive accounts following them.
I have noticed issues like this with other content driven sites such as YouTube where content creators may have a few hundred thousand subscribers or even a few million yet they will only be getting viewer counts of a few thousand each video because over time followers could become inactive for many reasons.
- Or steemit accounts enter a hibernation period when they have been
inactive for a number of months again say five, in this hibernation
period their account would 'un-follow' every account they followed,
until they become active again where they could get and option to
're-follow' the accounts the used to follow.
I think something along these lines could be very useful for older steemit accounts and would continue to be useful as old accounts will always be becoming inactive.
Having inactive followers can negatively effect peoples pages because when someone knew stumbles upon a pages like this it could deter them from looking at further content as they think the poster must have done something to piss a lot of people of as everyone stopped looking at their content.
