Negative Voting and Steem

I'm glad to see discussion on this topic getting a lot of attention. But in reality, it seems like these things only really matter to the top 0.1% of users. My little $0.01 votes do not make a difference either way.

It will matter to you if you're getting flag abuse. I think this is brilliant, maybe someday the annoying little bot flags on my posts will be removed! :)

But if they were "worthless" down-votes, I do not see why it would matter? Unless of course, I am misunderstanding something.

Even the low-rep downvote bots can still affect your payouts. Generally not much, but sometimes quite a bit.

I'm pretty confident that those changes would massively impact anyone active on the platform. It will make your $0.01 votes more valuable, since competing with bots will be easier (reading content will actually make a difference).

The real change though is for small content creators. Changing the current reward payout structure directly addresses visibility issues, which makes most posts more likely to be seen & paid according to the value they bring to the site.

Whales also win, since the platform is likely to be more welcoming to new users and the value of STEEM is directly related to user adoption. User adoption has a much bigger impact on the value of their holdings than their curation rewards (even for bot whales, making 1%+ SP/week only in curation rewards).

@frankjones Your votes matter very much because SP and Rep are treated differently. While you may only be able to add $0.01 SBD to a post with a vote because of SP, your Rep of 58 would still have a massive effect on a lot of the current user base. Myself included. ;-)
