The end of Steems

"Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss

Do you believe that?

Imagine right at this moment, the Steem blockchain failed, every backup, every witness, every bit of data wiped clean. Would you be happy? You might get what you want? You might lose a great deal. What if it never came back? Would that cause you any heartache? Would it cause you any problems at all or would you just shrug your shoulders and get on with whatever comes next?

If you are uninvested in this at all, do you think you are doing your best? Do you have the right to want for more than your current situation is providing? Perhaps you are getting too much as it is?

What would happen if the entire crypto market fell through and every little bit of value was lost? What would you turn your hand to? What happens to your vision of the future? As far as the traditional markets are concerned, that 300 billion is only 0.2 % of the yearly global product. A drop in the ocean. Is it is a drop in the ocean for you? What have you really done for it?

Perhaps you are just depending on others to make sure it all works out for your future. That way, if your future doesn't turn out well, you can blame them. If you never take responsibility, how can it be your fault? Right?

I wonder what all of those highly invested would do? What do you think? All of those collectors who have been amassing their coins day after day, year after year being wiped out. I wonder about all of those small players who have been relying on tiny fractions of amounts, or those who quite their jobs to depend on cryptos. What do they do if it is all lost? What is their back up plan?

I wonder, if it all falls down, how many will be happy with their behaviours to get to that point. I wonder, how many will happily go back to the other platforms, the lives of servitude.

I wonder, how many will be able to smile because it happened.

I don't know exactly what I would do but I know I would take a few days to recover from it. I do have a life outside cryptos but then the last few months I have started a little investment, though it is little compare to many, it is still important to me are they are mainly for the future. But this is like a call to all of us, to look at it again, how our actions are contributing to the sustainability of our investment.

But this is like a call to all of us, to look at it again, how our actions are contributing to the sustainability of our investment.

The point.

Better to have loved and lost ...

Anybody that's been through a bad break up will tell you it's better to have not loved at all

Give it a few years, and then consider again if you still prefer to have never been together. No guarantees 8-).

My bad break up was 12 years ago.

I can say, with absolute conviction, that I wish I never met her.

That's intense, man. Sorry to hear that. My two previous relationships ended differently... The first, was painful, but ending in us both agreeing it would be best (plus my mother and her mother got married shortly afterwards to hell, were we right! ;P) .. The second one ended in absolute agony. Took me months to get over. But I'm a stronger, wiser person for having been with her.

I'm all good now, married with a daughter. But I can say that part of my life didn't do much for me at all.

for some people no amount of time will make a difference .

Better to have loved and lost ....

How many have loved? If this is what they call love, they may want to consider remaining single. ;)

8-)

What would happen if the entire crypto market fell through and every little bit of value was lost? What would you turn your hand to?

The financial impact would hurt me a bit, but I never invest with money I can't afford to lose, so I wouldn't loose a night of sleep over it.

I would be sad though since this cryptospace is something I'm passionate and excited about. It offers new opportunities, a change from the standard we've always accepted and tolerated. I love that I'm experiencing something that possibly will have a gigantic impact for the following decades. If that would suddenly dissapear, it would hurt.

to lose the chance at that future would be painful, i think even the smallest investors would feel it.

This made me think.. I believe if it all failed for some bizarre reason, it would be rebuilt pretty quickly because people see the potential in technology and that it can do a lot of good to the humanity. Even if one lost all their invested money time and efforts in it, it would still be worth it I believe and I wouldn't be disappointed. The Channel Tunnel (a world famous tunnel linking the UK and France) was a disaster for the investors who backed it up financially, but look how many people have benefited from it now? I'll repeat again - Even if you lost money on crypto, it's not time wasted because it's a GIANT step forward for the human race.

it would be rebuilt pretty quickly because people see the potential in technology and that it can do a lot of good to the humanity.

Maybe, but he would be doing the rebuilding I wonder. The same pewople 'in' now?

Those who have the knowledge would have to do it. That would be the fastest route.

I've spoken my truths, I've shared myself.
I will have done my best (for whatever that's worth)

If it fails, I gave 'me' to it.

...I'll be sad for the platform, not for my lack of commitment to making it work...

I would feel much the same... that, and I could have paid my mortgage when prices were up.

You could have cleared your mortgage???? And you didn't...?
Wow.
For the last 20 years or so, I have been living debt free (well I have house rent I suppose, but it isn't much)

Your circumstances are much different than mine of course (you have a family!), but clearing debt was the best thing I ever did. (well not the best, but you get the idea)

It makes me shudder the though of being in debt nowadays.

My philosophy would be to always clear debts. Freedom. (but who am I to speak? I've also got bugger all! lol)

If everything is cleaned out we can't do anything but it will really give a heartache, I think it can give more than it.

For me it will be a classic case of nothing ventured nothing gained

If all else fails, try again. What else is there left to do if all the time, money, hardship you've invested disappears in the blink of an eye?

If you still have time, if you still have money, reinvest.

If it happened once and it was beloved, even by a few that might do it again, then why not? If you've lost it all, then there's nothing left to lose.

those who quite their jobs to depend on cryptos.

Hehehe I know someone on here who actually quit his job for Steemit. Won't call his name though.

Well for me truthfully ,I wound cry. Steemit has done what all Ponzi couldn't do for me last year . I dedicated my life to Ponzi and it wiped my account. Steemit was my only saving grace. That i eat well today and live a bit comfortably today is because I met with steemit so I will forever be greatful to this platform no matter what befalls it tomorrow.

Why dedicate to Ponzi schemes?

one thing i know clearly
that heart break will be more painful than the one with my girl friend!

lol... hope she doesn't read that.

what if i say she doesn't exist!

wouldn't surprise me. ;)

bdw she do exist and she will be of the same opinion!
she is also in love with steem

Imagine right at this moment, the Steem blockchain failed, every backup, every witness, every bit of data wiped clean.

I think my heart sunk a little, I love the work I do here and would be sad to see it disappear. We don't rely on any money made here, we power up everything in the hope it won't fail and would be disappointed but given the more I power up the less my account is worth, I am not here for the cash but again wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth if it did go back up. lol

if you are powering up everything then you should be happy the market is low because you get more SP now then you did when it was at 6 dollar
I am happy now, i am getting 3x the steem then before for the same effort.

Not necessarily. The SP returned per STU might be higher, but the STU is also harder to come by as everybody's votes are worth less.

Unless you're bringing in fiat.

there is that as well, you are right.

I power up all of it too or divest a small amount into other cryptos. Hopefully, people wake up in time.

it is not easy to accept a smiling loss, maybe living life with detachment would be great, but even I do not have that level of consciousness, steemit for me is a hobby that I dedicate a lot of time, read, comment, know and also have some benefit.... I would not accept with a smile lose it, unless not immediately, always with time you can see things better.

At first the heartache would be greater, but i want to believe that i’ve gained so much from this that i personally would be able to smile because it happened.

I wonder if it depends on length of time 'in'.

I would say so. I haven’t invested too much time nor money(yet) so for me benefits are higher ratio atm thank cons of platform.

Being relatively new, it won't really affect me much but it will still be a loss. I've met some nice people here and it would be a shame to lose contact with them. It would also be a shame to lose access to the interesting posts I've read on here. Plus, I don't have backups of all my posts so it would suck to lose them.

On the other hand, it would've still been a good experience. Being on Steemit has forced me out of my comfort zone. I've had to write. Write fiction even. I've even drank beer 7 days in a row because of it. 😆

Will I smile because it happened? Honestly, no. I won't be sad either. But that's because I'm an emotionless robot. 😉

I got that contest question wrong

Oh yeah, oops.

"Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss

Dr Seuss is brilliant! A great lesson, especially for children. But also for adults.

Would I smile if the crypto market collapsed to zero? Yes, if it was replaced by something better and the world economic system was improved.

Amended after thinking more about your idea:

My short-term feelings:
If the world fell back into its old, corrupt ways, then no, I would not smile. I would look to support something else that came along; that was very good; and would make the world a better place.

Long-term feelings:
I was just thinking about an old girlfriend. When we broke up, there were very hard feelings from both of us. It took awhile to heal. But now, decades later, I look back on it and smile and remember the good times. I am glad we were together and shared our lives for awhile.

Same thing with the cryptos. Long-term I would be happy that I was part of the crypto movement and tried to make a change.

If the world fell back into its old, corrupt ways, then no, I would not smile.

If it all failed, that is the most likely hapen except they would rebuild the infrastructure and own it all.

I won't be smiling, I tell you that. Not because of my investment, or lack thereof, no. Because something so monumental in shifting the economic realities of so many would fade away like that. That would be sad to see.

There are people who, if not for crypto, they would be in homeless shelters today, so crypto means a lot to them, to me.

I do not have a day job, I have steemit. I am not into trading other crypto, I just have steem. The amount of steem in my wallet might be a drying spittle in the sun but it is my stake here and if it were to disappear, I would hurt a lot.

I believe in the power of this platform to change lives. I have seen it happen in small scales and I know it has happened in huge scale for some. It is therefore important to keep the platform healthy, for so many will be broken by its failure.

It is always the problem with tying hope to humanity, time and time again, we have failed.

nobody would be happy to lose their money because with a lot of sacrifice and years of dedication, it is possible to collapse all their effort in question of second and the years serious dedication in vain

If I lost it all? I would be upset but Steem for me is fun and if I make anything from it, all the better. However, I have invested in other cryptos. That might hurt a bit more but isn't it all a gamble anyway?

The platform might die. The crypto market might die.

but the ideas will live on

Those with the money to rebuild it and make it 'seem' similar?

Although it will hurt , everyone will come out stronger from the experience. And since all of us here already took the red pill it wull just be a matter of time until we will build something even greater.

Oh i see

It better don't. I just got here

The question is as I understand it , Did you do the right thing with others if it all went down .
I would answer yes , there are things I look back at in hindsight that I could have done a little better . but yes I can look in the mirror and others in the eye .

Better to do what it takes to save the "relationship" in the first place. I think the difficult thing for many people is knowing what to do. We all have different ideas about what is needed. I think we can only do what we see to do when we see to do it, and hope that the better idea prevails.

Time to go back and get a job :/ lol
