The First Steemit Ad blocker Is Available

One of the biggest complaints is that the "trending" page is nothing but a promotional page with many of the posts just paid garbage. Since there are many accounts with the resources to upvote their content via voting bots there is a validity to this complaint.

Like most situations, if there is a problem, give it enough time and a Steemian will figure out a solution.

The other day a came across a post that detailed Steemits first "ad blocker".

Title "Custom Feed", this allows one to customize the trending page. One can opt for the page to appear with those posts that have paid upvotes or select one without.

Here are two different views:

Without Custom Feed...

With Custom Feed...

Here are the links to the pages in the same order to view the entire page.

For those individuals who are most concerned about the Trending Page, this is a help. Personally, I prefer to use the Hot Page since the content there is more likely to be less manipulated. Nonetheless, there are many who pointed to the problem with the Trending page.

While this does not solve the entire problem, it does allow one to custom the content based upon true upvoting to see what is the most popular content for oneself.

I'll give it a try for sure! It's really cool that the users often come up with some solutions here. Of course, it doesn't solve all the problems, but it's a start for finding and seeing better content.

Hey @taskmaster4450 do you know the custom feed can do so much more. As a curator, I have used it to pick certain types on post under certain tags at a determined payout value.

I can go a long way to find post made on a tag days or weeks ago. For those who are looking for those who reward commenters on their blog, there's an option for you.

You don't wanna see post from certain people too, you have the options. And at one point I had issues with post that were not in English flooding a certain tag I was curating, so I talked to the developer @jga and soon we'll have language filters too. Genius you will agreed with me.

That is great @lordjames, is this tool easy to use? I am thinking about giving it a chance.

Yes, though I had an issue and reported to @jga but it seems he didn't experience same.

The issue I had was that when I put in a command to bring post that way written some days back on a particular tag, it usually brings out only about 8 or so post. But I sent the same command to @jga and he reported not having same issue.

I hope you give it a try and report your findings. Do well to mention my name that I may be notified. Thanks.

Development always finds solutions which is why this platform will become so great as its very flexible. Regarding this situation, while it is a mive in the right direction because it gives is an option to filter these posts, I most look forward to the implementation of the hiveminds which should assist in categorizing content for each users preference.

I actually dont mind the trending page now - yes its all paid and 'ads' but its a good way to see whats going on in the community. I am the same and spend most of the time on the 'hot' tab.

Interesting post none the less!

The other part is that yes some people can pay to play, but if they can't then it will really stagnate as the only article that will trend will be the whales and some curie votes.

as shown in the above example that has three adsactly posts out of the four left from filtering haha. They fixed the bots so that you actually lose money using them. I used them to promote a post about a game I'm writing for, so it's nice to be able to get the word out, but it no longer creates a reward pool suck . The bots will continue to accumulate and grow , but that's natural econ math I guess haha

Yea thats true @kilbride.. I still use the bots but just for my weekly competition to get the word out

I've been using curation post from other people and of course ocd and curie to find interesting posts and people to follow.

Some of the community curation posts are good as well and a good way for me to support people who are active.

Awesome, especially considering that it is already preventing the time when big brands come spend their money advertising on "our" site.

I personally don't use Trending page at all, I hardly read more than 2 posts on the trending page per week. Probably also because of the boosted content that don't have quality enough.

lol, no thanks. I don't want to see more ADSactly :))

Lol. That's adsactly what the mute button is for... Not sure what I would of done without it.

hahahaah I was thinking, that's an interesting filter, it just shows us the people who have been here long enough to get huge votes fro each other. Not much better , but I like that people are trying

I didn't know about this tool, it will surely be helpful when filtering out unwanted posts!

It is a nice try to put the garbage away, this would get the quality content sieved out ......
Happy to see steemians are working for steemit....

This is a great idea! I've been trying for solve the same problem for a few months now. My solution is a new feed based on what you've voted on in the past. (You can check out my latest posts for more details) I'm looking for testers if you know anyone who would be interested.

Does it filter referral links from posts too? Just kidding, thank you for the trending with no votebots, this is so useful, app developers should use this :)

I was kind of confused when I saw your title...

I never saw adds here on Steemit.

But, it makes sense after seeing this now.

I might give it a try.

I only check HOT on occasion

I don't have time to look at the trending page. I wonder how many are like me and just ignore it all together. But nice tool I think. Blessings.

Thank you very much for this post and the mention. I appreciate that!!

For the interest of all, this is the introductory post where you can see all the functionalities.
