Not too Complicated Simplicity of the Gospel

in steemchurch •  6 years ago

2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

You see, now that you are part of the family of God, by believing on Jesus, repenting of your sins, there are the demons of hell and the religious that will constantly try to rob you of the liberty that is in Christ. There is a simplicity of the Gospel and there always those who try to complicate it. Most of the time, these are also trapped in their religious beliefs and don’t know any better themselves.

In our text the Apostle Paul (The Apostle to the Gentiles) was speaking of those who would through manipulation and smooth words seduce some away from the simplicity of the Gospel and in fact preaching “another gospel”.

Here is How Simole the Gospel is.

Mat 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Mat 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Mat 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

So many times of the years, I have been asked by a friend or acquaintance about how to get their marriage back on the right track. One of the most simple and wisest answers seems to be. “Whatever you did to gain her trust amd to attract her to you, continue to do these things to keep her.

Start following Jesus, attend to His teachings, be a doer of His Word and when you get to the end off your life, if you are still following Him, attending to His teachings amd are doing His Word, you have just successfully lived out the life of a Christ follower.

Just as when He called Simon Peter and Andrew, His purpose is to get you engaged in the Great Commission.

This is the simplicity of the Gospel.

There will always be the Pharisee types that will try to lay burdens on you greater than the ones they can bear themselves.

For instance

After the Apostle Paul returned to Jerusalem from His missionary journey to the Gentiles (non Jews), many of the leaders wanted to impose the practice of circumcision on the new converts. Most of the Jews had been circumcised on the 8th day of their life, when they had nothing to say about it. But imagine every male convert from 5 to 50, or even older having to go under the knife. This is what the Jews decided was necessary for the new Christian converts.

We will touch on the major points of this discourse. Please read all of the scriptures in between.

Here you have people that say, you need faith in Jesus plus keep the Jewish law to be saved.

Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Act 15:2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
Act 15:6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

These are Peter and James and more that are the early church leaders deciding what must be done by the early Gentile believers. The question is circumcision and keeping of the Law of Moses.

Peter stands up and discusses the matter amd made a few points.

Act 15:8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
Act 15:9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
Act 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
Act 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

  • God gave them the Holy Spirit (Peter speaking of when he preached in the Italian man name Cornelius’s house and the Holy Spirit fell on uncircumcised men.
  • Peter said just like the Jewish believers their hearts were purified by faith.
  • That both Jew and Gentile were saved by the grace of God.
  • Why put a burden on these new converts that they or they forefathers could not bear?

Act 15:13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
Starting with verse 13 James takes the floor.

Act 15:17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
Act 15:18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
Act 15:19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

Here is the verdict.

Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

  • Stay away from Idols
  • Stay away from sexual sin (fornication)
  • Stay away from strangled kill and blood.

Don’t get drawn away by slick talking would be teachers. The simplicity of the Gospel is one of faith and childlike trust in the finished Work of Jesus and His bodily resurrection from the dead.

Some will tell you have have to tithe to be saved. Some will say you have to abstain from certain foods or worship on a particular day of the week to be saved. It is never Jesus plus something. Jesus is All! It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is by His blood your are made clean and by grace found in Him. By His grace we continue and His blood is continually cleansing us.

Follow the two commands.
Love God and love others.
This fulfills all of the laws and the prophets. JESUS SAID THAT!

Continue in Christ, continue in faith, continue in obedience to the law of love. Follow Jesus and when you get to the end of your life, still find yourself following Him. By faith we let the life of Christ show through us.

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Gal 3:4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
Gal 3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Gal 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
Gal 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
Gal 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Gal 3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
The Righteous Shall Live by Faith
Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
Gal 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

No man is justified by the law. The just shall live by faith!

Thank you for your time!
God bless!
