I have noticed people trying to use emoji a lot on steemit, but usually what happens is the emoji shows as a blank square.
This happens pretty often, hold on a minute I'll go find an example...

                      Steemit could easily add Emoji as part of supporting Git Flavored Markdown - it would just be another plugin to their Markdown rendering engine. I wouldn't count it out for a future revision of Steemit.com, and derivative apps (like Busy, eSteem, and ChainBB) can add the support at any time before Steemit does (if they haven't already).

                      Then, you would include :smile: in your Markdown in order to have :smile: rendered in your text.

                          Which ones you see depends on the operating system and what fonts you have installed, by the way, but the ones you list are the font that is provided by the steemit.com server as one of the applications assets.
