The new follow me... Can I have permission to resteem.

in steemit •  7 years ago

Well, you can't fault people for trying new things. I guess we can call that progress.

I've always had a lot of formulaic responses to my posts, and I likely get more than my fair share since I am pretty liberal in my up voting of comments.

I don't have time to follow everyone, nor would I want to. I am attracted to people's profiles either because I stumbled upon them, had someone else I know refer them, or they have engaged in very MEANINGFUL ways in comments with me somewhere. That engagement will lead me to "who is this?" and I'll go look at profiles.

If you follow me. Follow me because you like my content. Don't follow me for a follow back. I don't do that as it dilutes my feed for things I am actually interested in. That doesn't mean I might not be interested in your posts. I actually may, once I discover them. I do not up vote, "followed, follow me", and I very rarely actually look at the profile of someone who says that unless I have a glutton of free time which LAUGH that almost never happens.

So within the past week I've gotten people asking if they can have permission to resteem my posts. Of course you never need to ask permission and this is new. It is interesting that I have seen this coming from several different accounts.

Is it that it will get the person curious in their own ego to go look at the profile where some of their work is resteemed. If you want to resteem my work have at it. If you want to translate one of my posts to another language. Feel free.

That doesn't mean I'll follow, etc. I stated how I pick followers. I have a lot of projects and interest so I am pretty careful about followers.

Resteeming my posts and saying things like I'll follow you, please follow me will not work. I am not interested in people who follow me and have no interest in what my posts are actually about. I want people to follow me because they like my content. If those people in turn engage with me with more than "nice post", or quoting part of my own post with their added "nice post" then you may catch my attention and I'll check out your profile.

I appreciate followers. I really do. This is WHY I up vote comments the way I do. Yet, I want genuine followers, not robotic ones. I want people to follow me because they want to engage based upon my posts whether they agree with me or disagree with me.

You can inspire me to do more by simply engaging with me.

I tend to 'un' follow those who do nothing but re-steem.
nice post by the way...it flushed out a couple of bots..
naturally I muted them.
I probably have THOUSANDS bots on my mute list by now.

There are some people that only resteem but are very involved in comments. I've gone to see the posts of some particularly engaging people only to find their posts are mostly resteems. I'd consider an unfollow to keep my feed cleaner, but usually I don't bother IF the things they are resteeming are interesting.

I do realize some people are not as comfortable with creating their own content. Or perhaps they just doubt themselves. Some of the people by their comments I think would be good at it, which is why I look at their profile.

If all they do is resteem and I don't care for most of what they resteem then yeah I'd likely unfoloow them too. Occasionally I find a cool thing I otherwise would have missed due to someone I follow resteeming.

I will resteem if it holds a value beyond me. Community involved.

Sometimes it is difficult to understand your posts. Sometimes due to the fact that my English is not as good as yours. BUT; that makes it Very Interesting for me, quality posts, not that easy topics and always something new or insights from a different perspective. That makes me at least THINK!

Yes, you seem to at least put forth some effort. It is appreciated.

I agree that @livelifefullest is putting in a lot of effort. I also see this on my posts.

I found this post from a resteem on my feed. The "There is no padlock on the resteem button" caught my attention. You are so right... The follow for follows get old. Make me want to follow you. Do something interesting on your blog, like this post. It kept my attention the whole way through, made me check out some of your other titles and I found a few posts I'm going to go read.

I have a feeling I'm going to like your posts. I'm always the devils advocate and you might be fun to correspond with. :-)

But... not trying to be mean... but come on. I read your post and then the comments following. Really! Isn't this what you were talking about... I wonder how many people read things.

very few people read things.
ninety plus percent voteing is by bots.
most people don't have an attention span long enough to make coffee.
hence...starbux.

I read everything, and I also will share a pot of coffee ;-)

one of the few.
the very few.
the literate...
with an attention span long enough to get past the title.

I read all the time, just don't always make comments.

I'll share a pot of coffee with you. ;-)

LOL I hope he shares his 10 pot cup so you can picture his pot!

I am reading so much that my head spins on a Sunday eve but at the same time I still miss so many great articles. Its all about luck sometimes what you catch. I do remember you:) I can't understand why so many people seem to vanish in my feed.

Ha ha...

Glad to see you laugh

Yep the first 5 or so comments were pretty clear indicators they didn't really read the post. I kind of expected that would be the case. Sadly, I was correct.

Yep!

I'm watching your metal reactions right now. Lol...

Those guys are great. I write about metal pretty often. I am into a lot of music, but that is my favorite. My metal tree series is my best metal stuff. I began working on a 2nd edition to that and am overdue of doing another post. Once I do it always includes links to the others. Yet, I really like the Lost In Vegas guys. They are entertaining to watch. I love fresh reactions, and especially from people that don't normally listen to the style.

I'm looking forward to seeing your next then. I only listened to metal for more than a decade. That's been changing over the last couple of years for some reason so these videos are a great trip down memory lane. I've been to a few of the bands concerts!

Was it from my re-steem? :)

It was!

so glad to see that it brought you here

Me too. :-)

o-kay, I followed you. Now can I have permission to resteem this post.;-}. Just kidding. I have read a lot of your post, haven't followed because some of the few people I follow follow you, so I just never thought to follow. But now I can see what you resteem. I think, (but am not sure), that when someone I follow follows you, the only thing I get are your post, not the ones you resteem. But that I am unsure of, because I also follow @richq11, and the @informationwar group, so I might get your resteems, at least I will see what happens.

@informationwar, and @richq11 are definitely people that share a lot of my "understandings" of the world at the moment (which are always in flux) and we have a mutual respect and like of each other. So it is not surprising that you see resteems of my stuff from them. You will find resteems occasionally on my account of things from them.

@newsagg is also one of my accounts and that one is frequently resteemed by @informationwar when I make a headlines post. I was doing that EVERY day, but I am trying a more staggered approach to that as that is time consuming and easy to get burnt out by feeling obligated. So if there is a lot going on I'll do them frequently. Otherwise, I'll occasionally skip a day or two and then the headlines will be more of a consolidation.

Not that it was really relevant other than I know that is an account of mine that @informationwar resteems.

This account here @dwinblood is the one I began with and is my primary and I write about a lot of different stuff, though there are certain topics I write about more often than others....

I've interacted with you a few times in comments and they were always intelligent and more than "nice post" so I certainly welcome your follow.

Well, I did not know you was @newsagg, When i head to @infomationwar I read it quite frequently, I don't comment on it so much, but i do look, and occasional link will be opened for further reading. You and everrit find the some of the most interesting news tidbits out there.

Yeah newsagg doesn't require comments. I do it more as a service. It is something I needed to do for myself, so I thought others would benefit as well. It is based upon the triangulation effect. I thought if I gather news headlines from many perspectives in one place and try to keep bias out of it then perhaps where all those perspectives meet might be closer to the truth. Though it also is quite revealing of patterns.

So since I am digging through that news already I decided why not aggregate it.

EDIT: And I try to keep my OPINIONS out of that account. Just present what I find.

So call news Anchors - - OPINIONS - - are what killed the news, they no longer presented "the News" they had to tell us what was news, according to their well informed OPINIONS.

The crap comments on steemit always drive me nuts. If you are trolling for upvotes and followers you are missing the point on this platform. If all you have to say is good job, save your time and simply upvote to let creators know you appreciate their work. The comments should be reserved for adding to the conversation.

@dwinblood is very generous with upvoting comments and I appreciate that, but that isn't why I comment. I upvote many of his posts without commenting because I really have nothing to add to the discussion. I comment in an attempt to add something relevant. Steemit is a good platform for engaging in conversations about interesting topics. Quality engagement will lead to more rewards than spam.

People asking to resteem your post is a new one for me ^^ Comments should be related to the topic. A "nice post" comment can be sincere, but honestly it doesn't add that much to the conversation.

Exactly. I've gotten a lot of these "Can I have permission to resteem" in the past few days and from different accounts. Kind of weird.

Almost as if they have "Maximizing you steemit experience" seminars where people are told this NEW tactic of asking for permission to resteem.

Lol, who knows. Could be multiple accounts owned by the same person as well.

Hear, hear. I couldn't agree with you more.

The F4F just kills it for me, I am more inclined to just blow them off as bots.

The Steem Pope blesses this post, and supports its crusade against spam.

Why would people beg for permission to resteem if not in an underhanded effort to get attention without offering substantive comments?

A lot of times people who resteem my post do it around the same time as I'm responding to comments. The upvotes, comments, and resteems seem to come in at the same time. Maybe it's a way to get their name out and to stand out in the midst of it all without commenting or necessarily upvoting?? Or in the case of bots who may say this, they are appealing to one's ego, as "follow for follow" obviously doesn't really work if it ever did. They're changing the game.

The question I'm struggling with isn't, "can I resteem?" It's, "can I comment without upvoting?" I really wonder if it's ok when I'm trying to regain my voting power, I don't want to disappear while I'm waiting for it to go up. I also don't want to vote at a lesser amount, as it will take away the penny I worked so hard to give people. I did upvote yours though. ;) Sorry to go off subject there haha!

I'm careful about who I follow too...now. At first I was eager to make connections, but following everyone who comments, resteems, follows will definitely fill your newsfeed up with a bunch of junk. So I never feel bad if I follow someone (like you) and they don't follow me back. Everyone is different, and different people have different tastes. For example, I doubt you would be interested in my latest article about sidewalk chalk!! 😂🙂😉

Thanks for the post @dwinblood, we'll definitely have to watch out for this strange request!!

It's, "can I comment without upvoting?" I really wonder if it's ok when I'm trying to regain my voting power,

Do to the restriction on voting power per day I am totally fine with people no up voting if they want. Furthermore, I'd rather get a comment explaining why someone disliked something than a down vote.

I do not expect a vote with a comment. I like them, but I do not expect or demand them.

Tell them no one time...No, you do not have permission to resteem. The response will be the same..nice post, I await your next post. In any event, nice post lol.

A few times I thought that I should write a similar article, explaining what you just wrote down so clearly. I hope many will read all the way through and learn.

I do remember your articles quite well from the earlier days, wondering why I never see more of your posts in my feed. I follow way too many people and need to change this. I finally realised that I have to be much more selective because my feed is a bit of a mess but somehow it feels rude to unfollow people you once followed. Oh well ....

Yeah I can't keep up with my feed either. I miss so much. I wonder whatever happened to the idea of steemit communities?

So true! Good question! I have no idea. My whole blog became messy with all re-steems but at some point I said " who cares" :)
Anyways nice to catch you again.

I've started cleaning out the people I follow. I've only been around for a little over a month but I'm already getting tired of seeing things I don't care to see on my feed. I don't want to miss posts from those that actually do consistently put out good content. I lose some followers doing this but it's usually those that don't really look at my content anyway, so... whatever.

I will follow your example but I got over 2000 to clean out pffffffffff

Ha ha! I think I'm around 500. It's been a while since I've seen something I don't like pop up. It's nice. You'll love it. ;-)

Thank you for your permission to resteem.

exactly!

I am attracted to people's profiles either because I stumbled upon them

I think your post is so important that you have explained the following

Good post I like it.

why?

Sorry.
I am very happy permission to resteem.

hmmmm ! just do it or read the whole article first to understand what it is about.
