Do you want to become an expert on Steemit? An expert on Steemit is one who knows what to write and for whom, when and how to publish it. This post contains my thoughts on how to become an expert on Steemit, after being on this platform constantly and publishing posts nearly every day, sometimes several times a day. First a highly relevant quote:
“Every expert was once beginner” - Helen Hayes
As an actress Helen Hayes was certainly an expert, as she was one of the very few actresses to win several awards that included a Grammy, an Emmy and an Oscar, as well as a Tony! I don't know of any other film star who has won all of them.
As per the Oxford Dictionary an expert is defined as:
"a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area."
What Makes An Expert?
There are 6 qualities that make an expert on Steemit, as follows:
1. Experience
The experience of an expert is much more extensive than that of a user, obviously. This allows him to apply the information and knowledge that he has gained from similar situations that he has encountered on the platform. For example, an expert will know when to publish a post so that he gains the maximum visibility and the time that his audience is on Steemit. On the other hand may have a great post but by hitting publish when his audience is asleep or offline will make the post disappear without a trace.
2. Self Confidence
This is a quality that is gained through experience and by being in sync with the platform. For you to be in sync you must go through posts in the trending and hot sections because that is the content being upvoted on a daily basis. The trends show you what is popular on Steemit. You might think that your niche is never among the trending topics, although posts in non-trending niches also do well due to their niche audience. But being in a niche that is not trending does not mean that you should not be aware of content that is trending.
3. Training
The best training for Steemit is not in any course but on the platform itself. The best thing about Steemit is that the experts share their knowledge. There are helpful posts every day and if you read a few of them regularly it will be good training to make you successful on Steemit.
4. Knowledge
An expert on Steemit has knowledge gained through sheer experience. No book or course can teach how you can become the best on Steemit. There is no platform on the web that is even close to Steemit in terms of structure and the way it works. A user must have a demonstrated efficiency and competence in applying successful approaches on Steemit that are known to work.
5. Self Improvement
An expert seeks self improvement constantly. While an expert may not need to be a perfectionist he strives to ensure that his output is of high quality and stands out. When you go through the fast moving feed(that I call the Steemit Niagara) you will be able to see good posts stand out due to their titles, descriptions and thumbnail image. An example are the posts of @sirwinchester, one of the top rates bloggers on Steemit, that are quite unique and can be differentiated from the posts of others quite easily.
6. Intuition
Last but not the least, an expert knows what works through a sixth sense that guides him with a mixture of experience, know;edge, self confidence and training. For example, I read a lot of posts for curation, something that I have done in the past as well - and i know a post that is worth curating just by looking at the thumbnail, title and description, intuitively. Not that I don't click open other posts but when I do I find that most of them are not what I am looking for. This was just an example of intuition - I am not a Steemit expert by a long shot!
How Do I Become An Expert Fast?
If you have read through the list of traits above, you will realize that becoming an expert on Steemit takes time and effort. If you are short of time or do not want to work hard, don't think of becoming an overnight success on Steemit. Most of the experts on Steemit are circa 2016 or have joined in early 2017.
There could be comparatively recent joinees who have gained quick popularity owing to thousands of followers who were shown a video and asked to join from YouTube, Facebook or Twitter. But Steemit is a different ballgame altogether and they may well admit that they are no experts when it comes to Steemit.
If you are ready to work hard for a few months, you can gain a fair amount of expertise on Steemit. Read posts regulatory, leave meaningful comments and participate in the community, sharing tips and learning new ideas. When you have doubts or need more information ask questions in the Discord channels and Steemit Chat rooms and try to help as many newbies as possible.

Thank you.
Best time to post - it depends upon where your audience is. If you have American followers and readers, the best time to post is in the morning and late evening in the US. One of the tools (forgot which one) shows the time that followers are on Steemit.
