Hey guys. We had a Meetup in SF last Thursday and I did a quick "Introduction to Steemit" presentation. I wanted to make it non-technical and short. We have a video of the presentation, but I decided to write up a script for it because I mostly improvised last week and want to keep improving on it.
It should only take 5 minutes! I hope you find it useful as a guide & reference so you can present Steemit quickly to others. Here is a script and slides. Hope you find it valuable!
Note: I didn’t put much text in the slides and you can run through them quickly.

Introducing Steemit
![Presentation2](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/4933cec357.png)
So what is Steemit? It’s a social network that rewards you for your contributions.
![Presentation3](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/495e7395ed.png)
You have a chance to get paid for writing quality blog posts. Sometimes you get paid a lot. The Steemit website is similar to Medium, Tumblr or other blogging platforms.
![Presentation4](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/495dc63fba.png)
Looking it at the bigger picture it’s kind of like the Internet that pays you.
![Presentation5](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/495d0e3b70.png)
The technology behind Steemit is called Steem, a software network of computers that are connected together to perform certain operations. All the content that people write is stored in a database that can’t be changed. No one can change history. No one can censor the data once it’s in the network. The software network is incorruptible, unhackable and uses military grade security. Because of these features, the network also functions as a trustworthy accounting system for money and financial transactions.
![Presentation6](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/495c269a78.png)
So you might wonder how you get paid and where the money comes from. The Steem software network actually rewards you with a small ownership stake for your contributions. You get a piece of the pie in the software network itself for your blog posts.
![Presentation7](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/4955fb3d17.png)
50% of author rewards are ‘shares’ in the network called Steem Power. The other 50% of the rewards are dollar tokens called Steem dollars that are backed by the value of these ‘shares’ in the network. These Steem dollars can be redeemed for real US dollars.
![Presentation8](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/4959d75588.png)
So why are these ‘shares’ in the network valuable?
![Presentation9](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/495523d4ae.png)
Well anything that is useful and scarce is valuable. The software network is useful for the reasons I mentioned before. It’s censorship resistant, incorruptible and secure. It also has a trustworthy accounting system. The number of ‘shares’ in the network is limited so it’s scarce. Therefore the software network is both useful and scarce. It becomes really valuable when it’s useful, scarce and popular. Value can grow exponentially for each new user that finds the network useful. This is called the network effect.
![Presentation10](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/4951611894.png)
Currently the software network is worth over $100 million,
![Presentation10](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494fbc6e67.png)
...but it’s really early on and it’s just a baby right now.
![Presentation11](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494ecd4ef4.png)
If we imagine the potential value of the software network we can just look at Facebook.
![Presentation12](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494e2d2a73.png)
Facebook is useful, extremely popular and is currently valued at over $355 Billion dollars! That’s over 3,000x the value of the Steem software network. That’s why I feel it’s a great opportunity for all of you to get involved and participate. We may be in the very early stages of the next Facebook. Of course nothing is guaranteed and it will take a lot of work to get there. Currently Steemit has over 75,000 users in just a few months and it’s growing fast.
![Presentation13](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494d610037.png)
Here are just some of the success stories on Steemit. @cryptoctopus started posting very early and consistently and is one of the top contributors. He was able to buy his first car with all the rewards he received!
![Presentation14](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494c7ba698.png)
Tara (@guerrint) wanted to get more females involved and got over $30k for a makeup tutorial!
![Presentation15](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494b812dee.png)
For you developers out there, @xeroc who’s a long time expert in this technology created an open source GUI to access the software network without having to go through Steemit. His reward was the largest ever for one post at over $46k!
![Presentation16](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/494a6012eb.png)
Lastly, we have @infovore from Africa. He grew up on $1/day and often with just a few hours of electricity and has earned over $41k in value since he’s started!
We’ve witnessed all these incredible stories in such a short period of time. Maybe you can be the next one?
![Presentation17](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://i.imgsafe.org/4949443fef.png)
If you want to learn more, long time members of the community wrote a book called Steemit 101. It’s only 99 cents on Amazon. I recommend it.

One last point. In the end the monetary reward isn’t the most important part of the platform. It’s more satisfying to just be part of a great community of people who are so open and willing to share their lives and passions. You can come to Steemit just to read, to learn and meet a lot of nice people. So come join Steemit and be part of our growing community!

I like your presentation style. The underlings at mine always appear to be listening but I'm always worried that they are just thinking "please don't kill me".
