My First Bad Experience with Steemit

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

@heiditravels: Welcome to my world. I am sorry this happened to you, but I am glad you stood up and cleared the air.

Thank you for defending me too. I am very glad to read your post as I suspected something fishy about @fyrstikken after he lied about me "giving financial advice". I never gave any single person financial advice to invest in Synereo. He confused the solutions i presented (one for addressing harassment and abuse (duh!) and the other for addressing centralized power), with offering advice to invest. I never told anyone to do anything with their money. I am an artist and writer, not an investor. So, when he began spreading lies about me, I just couldn't believe it since I considered us to be friends. I was shocked actually. And of course hurt. The reason I didn't create a post yet about it, is because, quite frankly, his insane behavior points to an unstable mind.

I was taken aback by his calling you a 'cunt' multiple times, and also all the sexually violent talk. That just showed me exactly who he is. He is definitely not who I thought he was. Thank you for clearing this up, because it has been weighing on my mind how to approach this issue. My natural tendency is to withdraw from such nutjobs, who are both powerful, rich and have followers and also who have it out to get people (note death threats aimed at Tuck).

I was very disturbed that he was spreading misinformation about me when I did nothing to him personally. I see that he was angry because I was bringing up flaws of steemit, ones that I want to be fixed before things get out of hand.(Like they are now).

And another thing I will just clear up with this. The reason I made that Synereo post so controversial is because I could not stand the fact that one user was continuing to be harassed. To ignore the most vulnerable people in society is to be the worst kind of human.

The misogyny in here is exactly as I described it. I have been noticing, and absorbing other people's pain for far too long. I wrote that post because I cannot stand to see people suffer. I am not going to be happy in a place that ignores suffering. I wrote it mainly for others, as well as my future safety. Not having a block feature is simply absurd at this stage of the game. (And yes, I realize that the blockchain will contain all data. I realized that in my first week of being on Steemit. I am only referring to the application known as Steemit having the filter or block feature.)

My only regret is that because of my anger in the devs not taking this issue seriously, I used part of that email from Dan. That was wrong of me to do so and I have already apologized to him. I know when I have gone too far, because I feel bad about it. I did make a mistake in quoting that email and I want to apologize to him and also to all the newbies who were negatively affected.
But the rest of it stands. I am not a puppet and I will always seek the truth over everything else. I cannot be bought off, and no one owns me. You can tell a lot about a society with the way they treat the most vulnerable members.

This new thing of @fyrstikken lying now about 2 women and calling us 'cunts' is the exact reason that women have already started fleeing. I am glad all this came to light because it has been in the shadows, happening to women, gays and other marginalized people. I know, because they tell me.

Thanks for your comments, and for clearing up what i suspected already, @fyrstikken is a wolf in sheep's clothing, someone with a giant ego and an explosive, violent temper. He has destroyed any trust I had for him previously. And I also have evidence that there are many others, both within Steemit and outside of Steemit who have been misled and manipulated by him.

I waited a long time to respond because, like everyone else, I wanted to believe in that jovial, Norweigan image. I had to collect research, data, from sources. I have enough data to make a firm conclusion.
I had even written a long story about Steemit weeks ago with him as a character in it. I see now that I have to remove his character because it is not representative of the real person. I think what really sucks about all of this is that I really love that SHITCOIN YouTube video he did. And I guess I will continue to like that video, even though the person who made it tried to ruin my reputation in Steemit. well I believe I still have the highest reputation in here. Numbers are more trustworthy than words. When I am wrong, at least I admit it. Now, it's someone else's turn. People need to come clean and admit they were wrong.

No human being is right 100% of the time. We are not robots. We are in constant evolution. However, I do not spread lies about others. In fact, I am naive about people and I tend to see the good in others, even when I shouldn't.

It takes a lot for me to see the bad in people and publicly come forth and reveal that. It feels wrong to write about others (that's why I apologized when I wrote about the email). That is the reason I know fyrstikken is misguided. For him to fly off the handle and make public accusations based on a vague conversation, and try to ruin @heiditravels is enough to make me steer clear of him altogether.

Sort Order:

I have read all the comments here to this post and feel compelled to add my reaction and opinions to what has been posted already.
It is most interesting to look at the posts from an analytical point of view.
First, there are way too many people who see this as an entertaining piece rather than a totally unacceptable event that should not exist on the platform. Yes, it is supposed to be censorship free, however, that should not be used as an excuse for extreme abuse and harassment.
Second, we have two people here who have clearly demonstrated through their posts over time that they are reasonable, mature, and personable individuals so why the comments suggesting that this is a case of "he said, she said"?
There should not be any question about that even if all one has as evidence is the information put forward in this post.
Third, in my opinion, this is definitely both a Steemit issue AND an incident of abuse and harassment that must be taken seriously and acted upon in a decisive and constructive manner.
This is not a "problem for Dan to deal with". It is a problem that falls squarely on the shoulders of all who are a part of the community and it is our aggregate responsibility to condemn unacceptable behavior in no uncertain terms and demonstrate the fact that abuse and harassment on the Steemit platform should and will not be tolerated.
Regardless of how incredible the technology, innovative infrastructure, and financial potential Steemit provides, the whole project will fail miserably if the community does not take concrete and immediate steps to deal with and prevent abuse and harassment on the platform.

I'm glad to see some common sense here. :)

What do you propose? Other than warning people about bad users, what are you going to do?

Fyrstikken. THE FIRST SOCIOPATH ON STEEMIT. A dude who gave 20 million dollars to Peruvians, but start promoting personal hate on steemit chat. While a multi-millionair he acts like 1000 dollars is worth his reputation by using disgusting words. Reaching 10 million people in a country of 30 million is another obvious lie that is impossible. Reaching one third of a population on tv is like doing better than the best tv-programs.

I can't believe the people on Steemit would reward his post/behavior.

Upvoting hidden comment above to counter bad flags! Stop abusing your power @chhayll you know this has negative effects on reputation.

And "The beauty about steemit is we can all have different views" is just your excuse to not even consider the views of the rest of us!

Get off your high horse!

yep, my very first post on Steemit was about the flat earth discussion. it got down voted by some asshole without any comment. Why are people like that? I mean if you really feel so strongly about a post to INITIATE HARM against their reputation (i know you "anarchists" believe words are meaningless and feelings can never be harmed), at least have the guts to say why... and no weak sauce statements like "it is inappropriate" or "i don't like it". Use your big boy/girl words and actually give everyone a valid reason for your down vote. If it is worth down voting, it is worth an explanation. I assume you all want this venue to grow and not collapse under the weight of assholes? Prove it!

Oh and thanks for telling me how to down vote stuff. i had no idea it was the flag up top. i only used it once against a very vulgar and explicit post. Glad i did it but i should have said why. From now on, i will say why.

Correction: people who have invested in the platform by way of steempower upvoted him. Not in any way all of them, but it should show all the good people out there that powering up instead of cashing put and helping oneanother can do a lot of good. Fyrstikken has many people who he hangs out with trading "shitcoins" and it is pretty obvious that he can get them to upvote him and get them to respond in his threads and support him in various ways. There is nothing keeping others from doing the same.

Indeed, just like with every truly free system, people are forced to act to protect good people in the moments they believe in the cause, or risk being overrun by corruption. Synereo will not fix this about humanity. Steem "fixing" it will not ultimately ever 100% happen.

And ultimately Flagging is not that big an issue for people who build/participate on steem based sites that have steem as a backend and different reputation systems/better solutions.
The system is so new it is hard to tell how people will use it, but ultimately our freedom comes with these risks. At least with dan, he gave people an incentive to stick around to work on problems as opposed to simply dumping everything they have at the first sight of difficulty (read opportunity for growth).

(note death threats aimed at Tuck).

Correction : He didn't threaten to kill me (that I'm aware of ... if he did please tell me!), he threatened to kill the Developer of Blackcoin. Now he's making jokes out of his death threats and calling Heidi a c-nt in a comic, but that's completely hilarious I hear.

Fyrstikken's Steemit Rules

  1. Death threats and calling women c-nts = Funny.
  2. Pointing out fyrstikken's death threats and calling women c-nts = Harassment, abuse and bullying.

Keep that in mind when you vote.

@heiditravels @stellabelle sadly it isn't just women that get mistreated, abused and have their reputations destroyed on Steemit. I had some issues a few weeks back (personal stuff) as detailed in my Apology Post. Instead of anyone trying to find out why I was acting like a "tool" they just all ganged up on me, berated me and kept on until I completely lost all control. Now I don't blame them, per say, as I started it and didn't even realize I was doing anything wrong (at the time) but the fact remains that you ladies are not alone. Any percieved injustice quickly gets distorted and turned against you....at least on Steemit and other sites I have been on like Digg, Slashdot, Facebook, Reddit, Voat....etc.

PS - I am sorry this happened to you and if you really wanted to make a point you would go on @fyrstikken's radio show "teamspeak" and confront that fucktard (sorry) face to face or voice-to-voice in public on his own show. Also to the best of my knowledge @fyrstikken has never even been in Peru. He lives in Norway (or one of them Nordic countries).

Can I just say I love this place. Not because the platform is so great or anything obviously in beta it is extremely flawed. But because of people like you @stellabelle I love this place. There are a large number of others like you I could mention but I won't. I hope they will just know by the way I describe you that I am thanking them too.

  • The good people I have met here have been respectful even of things that oppose the views they are most passionate about.
  • They admit when they have made mistakes or disrespected somebody or reacted harshly.
  • They make the effort to understand the point of view of even the deranged.
  • They defend people who are being abused.
  • They work hard to make this platform a welcoming place.
  • They engage with their followers and try to help eachother to reach an audience.

Unfortunately there are also some trolls who will work to cause the opposite. But I am finding more beautiful people here like you @stellabelle than trolls. Perhaps that is only due to the reputation system... But I just wanted to thank you and the many people like you that are working to improve the place just by standing up for what is right.

I was bringing up flaws of steemit, ones that I want to be fixed before things get out of hand.(Like they are now).

What changed the last week and...

"things got out of hand"

Am I missing something?

Why does it have to be "misoginy"? Why can't it just be a generic issue that can happen to both women and men?

i find it hard to believe there is a large and growing group of people who claim words to be meaningless and that neither words nor emotions can cause harm. I am confident that group is very wrong and would ask them to go study psychology and law just a little bit.

Neither words nor emotions can cause harm, at least last I checked, at less than about 160 decibels.
Your emotions are under your own control. Get a hold of yourself, pussy.

The question is less about whether it hurts others psychologically and more about the fact that anytime you take a stand against one kind of behavior by decree we are no better than those who lie and force misinformation. Omission of one persons freedom is just as bad as openly attacking someone with yours.

No need for you guys to flee because of people like him. There are other guys on here that are not misogynist in nature. We appreciate both of you as human beings. I don't identify people by gender. On here I care about your mind and what you are willing to create with it and share.

Hang in there and never flee due to people like this. If you must, MUTE them and then speak with people like me and the many others that are as appalled by such behavior as you two.

I can see the need for a block feature in any social platform. We do it in our real lives -- the easy way and sometimes the hard way -- and it's no different online. I think blocking has worked well on YouTube. Some great channels would have to turn their comments off otherwise. To me, it's just a part of how any social platform should work, if it wants the general public to be on it.
