No Fake! I just came here from another post, saw that mess up top and scrolled down. Too old to upvote but here's a 2 day old comment.
I was scrolling the slider, and it took 3x longer to change. These Steemit glitches are annoying, always different and takes forever to fix! Gonna check out STEEMPEAK.
I do not think it's about being an "official site" at all. It is a better alternative in many aspects. Maybe Steemit should focus a little more on improving their UI to compete with these alternatives.
I've been using Steempeak for over a month now and im quite involved in the discord community as well. Brainstorming sessions have been going well and the guys in there are very active on the development front. For me, it has the potential to really clean up what you want to see on the blockchain. It's always going to be up to a user interface to be able to filter out the shitposts and allow the users to view exactly what they want to. In my opinion, with the right focus, it has the potential not only to surpass condenser as the de-facto user interface for viewing the blockchain, but also has the potential to do more for the blockchain than any other application can.
This site is wonderful, and I have @mattclarke to thank for introducing me to it.
I was using Steemit.com until today, and now there's no turning back from Steempeak.com. Whoever did the work to create this site would get a huge man hug with plenty of hearty pats on the back from me if I saw them in person!
Your post about the features and improvements of Steempeak is excellent too. Thank you!!!
I still use steemit but with a combo of steemworld.org..
Steempeak looks worth trying....
can you link to the page where wallet bugs are listed...I have never really come across any issues with Wallet page so interested to learn what can be the potential issue with it.
They have been around since over a year, in my opinion, the wallet is the most important page for most users and also requires the most trust. These issues do not create trust.
I've been on Steemit for 14 days and already experienced half of the challenges you mentioned in this post. It seems like Steampeak would be great. However, I have no idea how to use another front end. Can anyone recommend a post that talks about how to use multiple front ends? I'd like to try it out.
Okay for us simpleton's you are going to have to example it out....I've tried twice, one I got a 404 message and another that this site isn't available.
Be sure you go to "steempeak.com" not "steampeak.com", the second one is a domain that's for sale.
I figured out what I needed to log in. You use your same username (sunlit7), but use your "Active private key" or "owner private key" as your password.
If you are logged in to "steemit.com" with the owner key, you can see your other keys on your "wallet" page under the "permissions" tab, you have to click on the button to show private key. When you first signed up the owner key is what you were given but you might have thought of it as the password for steemit. You can use it as a password, but it's the owner key.
this is absolutely brilliant. thanks for sharing man. had no idea this even existed but now i canโt stop looking at the dashboard and all the extra features.
personally i use steemit because itโs clean and easy to navigate. but steempeak is pretty sweet. i can see this becoming more of my front end for desktop interactions
You sold it to me. The UI, the stats, awesome. And no charge, that is a major plus, one of the reasons many people use steemit.com is because there are no charges
Done! I love the fact that I can switch users so easily. No signing out or using different browsers. Not to mention the dashboard! Now who doesn't love a pie chart or two. :D
Nice one. I like Steempeak, I believe you were the one who told me about it originally. Also, I like partiko for mobile post viewing / up-voting. I don't comment with it though as it leaves spam inside the comments.
I haven't found a way. I hope they do have a way eventually though, as it makes the chain fatter for no real reason other than promotion, and we can promote them with posts and videos. So i don't see a reason for it to be in non related comments if that makes any sense.
Well, the main reason I'm still using Steemit.com is because that's the site I signed up with. I wouldn't want to enter my private key into a site I'm not familiar with. Could end up being phished. I don't even know which one is the valid link for SteemPeak since it doesn't look like it's mentioned in this article.
There are others as well, and I got lucky with busy.org that I didn't get phished losing my account. There's just too many ways to get screwed (DNS poisoning, etc) if you have sizable holdings on the Steem blockchain, so I err on the side of caution.
It looks like I will have to try it out judging on your posts. Steemit is great but has many flaws and some of which are glaringly obvious. Steempeak seems to have addressed a lot of these and if they are putting that much development into the userface then it might fix the rest soon enough. I've been using steemworld.com for stats but the Steempeak page looks brilliant to have it built into the site itself.
Recently I have also taken to using partiko which is an app that similarly has a few gaps up to now but is a huge improvement on any existing app that I have seen to date. It also doesn't have any benificiarys which is good.
These are what we have been looking for and it seems like all the development that has been going into the users side of the blockchain is landing at the same time. This bodes well for the future especially if the devs are getting the same results behind the scenes.
This is really looking like a huge step forward for Steem-kind ;-) Thanks for pointing this out, @themarkymark! I especially like the little extra's like "hide resteems" because they mess up the visuals on the feed, which is important for many users.
Also the wallet page is a huge leap forward, and after trying it out for a few minutes I can already tell it works smoothly. Now if I could just find the "power down" button... Not that I'm planning to power down, but I just miss some buttons on the wallet page. Can you tell us where they hid them?
Love the clean layout to; I'll stick with steempeak for the time being and if I encounter no nasty bugs, I've found my new front-end!
Goddamn, that's fantastic stuff, man! You're an obviously outstanding and innovative developer, bud. Thanks for your awesome contribution to the steem blockchain! :)
Hi dear thanks for nice info but you know I personally thought that steemit has also some issues like spammy posts and there is lack of quality in content alongside, that's why along with financial prospects quality of content also lacks here, and let me check steempeak than for sure I ll respond you. Anyways thanks for new idea.
Thanks for sharing about the key features that are most important to you. I have heard people speak about SteemPeak over last few weeks, but your post is convincing me to give it a try.
But a feature that I would like is separation between resteem and real post. Like there should be a way to search for my old posts without getting pissed off by resteems.
eSteem Surfer is desktop app, give it a try ;) We are working on improving eSteem Mobile with upcoming release, as well. Good detailed review on SteemPeak...
At the time (when I was a young steemian) I looked at the desktop app but seems like it was taken down or not updated so I never ended up trying it. I did try the mobile version though.
Oh right, initial version was just ported from eSteem Mobile but eSteem Surfer is new product with new code. There is something special in works for Surfer, we hope to share with community within month or two.
Previously I've been too lazy(? not sure if that's exactly the word I'm looking for) to try out alternatives to steemit.com . There are a lot of issues with the site but none of the alternatives really stood out to me and I figured the issues I have with Steemit were minor enough to just say fuck it.
This looks so fucking awesome though. Really. Everything about it. Usually I kind of just brush past these sorts of posts but Steem Peak looks great! Definitely going to try it out. Thanks man :)
It looks good, I've not used steemit side I discovered busy, I might try to dip my toes into steempeak, I like that it has a night mode and I don't have to use any outside tools to get a night mode going on like in busy.
Agreed, I think we need to reduce our dependency on Steemit.com as issues are not being resolved at the speed they need to and it has no innovation. If focus is on the blockchain only that might help speed up its development.
I continue to read about it more and more as they have also recently deployed a @steemmonsters gateway with @peakmonsters. Do they take any rewards from using the platform and is the log in as secure as the Steemit site?
Coming. We will do that in combination with another features we'll do which is
"Real Rewards" aka show people what they are actually going to be getting or got.
We'll likely allow them to choose USD/EUR/STEEM in their settings to start.
Thanks for the notice about this site. I had not heard about it before and was impressed after signing in. I will make this my new default location. I had been using busy.org but for some reason lately it takes several sign in attempts before I am successful or I will be able to sign in successfully but then a few seconds later it will kick me out and I have to sign in again.
Hi Mark. Truth is I am bloody useless at this and want to move to something better suited. I will try over the weekend to see if I can get it set up. Everything new takes me time and I will get there.
I've taken a quick test drive and like it, especially for the ability to exclude resteems. I also like being able to save users and save topics and get at them quickly. Maybe you can do this on Steemit??? Is there a way to list all the channels you follow and maybe their last post date? Still looking at the rest of the things you mentioned. Thx.
I'm fairly happy with a combination of Steemit and Steem Plus. I'm used to the limitations. I use eSteem too. The notifications are good, but they need more filters to control those. I've heard about Steempeak, but I need to look into it more. It's good that we have a selection of options. The competition should drive innovation. I wonder if they will all take a cut of rewards
Trying out Steempeak currently, I'd say give it a few days worth of testing. It feels fast, looks modern and has ton of advanced features over steemit.com.
Hah. I'll just copypaste a comment I left elsewhere a few minutes ago:
Because it still pays me something.
Although I've found a platform that rewards me more and I've been focusing more on that one. Also, I'm holding on to some naive hope that maybe a new whale comes along and notices me and adds me on his autovote list.
So I'll post here and there.
Also, beneficiaries is one of the few good and worthwhile features here.
I know. But then again, I only use the site steemit.com for vomiting my content on the chain in hopes to whore myself for a few bucks, so the UI doesn't really matter much.
We will work on automating it even more however if you want the true GSMI you'll likely want to remove bots and paid votes from the equation since they're unlikely to be "gauranteed" statistically
thank you @jarvie - i am using steempeak now and don't think i'll switch back to steemit and i will be telling everyone about this. it's awesome! good work!
No keys, you authenticate via SteemConnect (which requires your active key to give them permission to enable their access on your account) but they never receive any keys and keys are never sent over the wire.
SteemConnect is one of the most secure ways to enable third-party services and I believe is now owned by Steemit Inc but previously owned by Busy.
I am still using steemit.com because it is simple and I like simplicity. Also, I am lazy and used to it. This being said, several of the features you mentioned (actually one or two) are interesting so that I will potentially give steempeak a try, maybe later this week. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the outline @themarkymark I was not sure if it was legit. I guess that is why i liked Busy.org so much but Steempeak is defiantly light years ahead. With that said you still have to use steemconnect to log on so Steemit.com will always be the parent. Right?
Not sure what you mean by parent but SteemConnect is maintained by SteemIt Inc and acts as an authentication gateway between the blockchain and third party apps.
hey @themarkymark, my lingo is limited in regards to this crypto thing. The 'authentication gateway" is the wording I was looking for to ask you the prior question. Would be nice not have anything to do with Steemit, Inc., my opinion.
One way to look at me asking you questions is the fact that you have knowledge and expertise in this subject. My expertise is in other subjects. For me, I am the owner of a car and I just want to drive it and not work on it. Hows that. This was supposed to be a marketing arm and or a propaganda tool for me. It really has not panned out that way. I guess I will just keep trying.
Thanks, keep up the good work. I am on here once a day and about this time since I have a full load of other things to do. Being back in PA and manning my antique store. Looking for another way to market my goods.
checked it out really quick because of your post and I really liked it! I think I'm gonna mess around on it for a few days but it definitely is leaps and bounds ahead of steemit.com so thanks for telling me about it :0)
Steempeak looks fantastic! I'm still used to the features available on Minds, which unfortunately are frequently lacking on Steemit, but Steempeak appears to cover all of those and then some! I'll definitely give it a shot when I've got a good chunk of time to sit down and see all it can do!
AskSteem is powerful but it's not great at SORTING and showing the info we implimented it just as a stop gap. The real power in search is not in FINDING stuff (which asksteem does well) it's in the decisions that put certain results before another.
That we have not worked on yet. That's some algorithm type stuff right there. haha
However maybe for the time being we can just default to NEWEST perhaps.
Thanks for that yeah that's what I use but it's not working for some reason. It worked on one post but not the other especially when I went to centre my banners. Thanks for getting back to me anyway maybe it's just a glitch
They got me because of peakmonsters. I might try them out. I moved to busy and am loving it, only head back to steemit occasionally. Lets check out another frontend.
I love the details! This is awsome! Easier for people like me who have a fulltime job and want to make some lil cash/cryto here on steemit by sharing my blogs and showcasing my talent. I wish I knew this one earlier! Stay strong steempeak! Lastly I love the stat where I can keep things in track and show to my friends that steemit can be a legit way to earn. CRYPTO IS THE FUTURE!
I'm guilty.... i've checked it out a time or two but i don't guess i like change..... i have been posting from busy.org for that vote from them once a day ;)
Finally made the switch thanks to this post and I must say it's looking and feeling really good - already decided to make this my main front end.
Feature you forgot to mention is switching between accounts, for people who have many due to development work or for those who want to keep accounts with different focuses, it makes life a lot easier.
Everyone still using steemit.com should give steempeak a try
When you resteem, you are sharing a post from someone else on your profile so others will find it. But when you view your own profile, you want to see your posts and don't want other posts cluttering that.
I get that you are referring to a translation of the UI...but as a suggestion @felix.herrmann you could save the topic #deutsch. For users and topics, you'll see a 'star', which, when clicked, adds the user or topic to your list of 'saved topics' or 'saved users'.
I believe we WILL do translated sites... the time is not yet and here's why...
The idea is that if we translate too early in our development process we'll have to translate with every single feature that comes out again and again into 5-10 languages.
However if we get to a point where we have most of our roadmap is done and have the manpower to handle it we will.
It's not translators we lack it's the backend solution to handling the various translations AND the extra developer burden to inputting all the english into that system with each update and then calling to action all the translators. which slows down how fast we can release a new feature.
So my challenge is if there is someone out there who could handle organizing the translation process for each update we'll jump in. But I think it's probably best to wait until the bulk of our features are done first.
To be fair, my view is that creating UI and UX is outsource-able, especially when it comes to super public projects, like, you know, a blockchain. Working on the "backend", especially if it's a blockchain, needs the kind of talent that is way harder to find.
Hi @themarkymark! We are @steem-ua, a new Steem dApp, using UserAuthority for algorithmic post curation! Your post is eligible for our upvote! Thanks for your contribution, keep up the good work, and feel free to join our Discord server!
Steempeak looks like it has some great features. I Steemconnected and like what I see. Honestly at this point thought I mainly only use platforms that have delegated power and then hope for an upvote. That is the harsh reality of being a Steemian with only 5300 followers and a low reputation.
Hahha, I'm glad you got the joke. Because of the nature of everything on here these days it is like being back to square one. I might as well have 5 followers and a 28 reputation.
Since i have your attention. I'm curious about the @alpha account. I'm sort of confused as to why it is earning from @buildawhale ? Is that a Steemit INC owned account or is that an account owned by @ned or someone?
Yep that is certainly a reality ... one we'd be alright with Steemit INC solving. haha
I have a unique and powerful way we could do automated upvotes to our users that would be pretty fancy Steem Tech.
However we do see that many users that have the same thoughts as you tend to use https://steempeak.com for everything they do including templates / drafts / looking at posts.
And then when it comes time to post do so on the platform that gives them money. haha
I mean our goal is retention and being the place you send all your friends. So i think that's acceptable. We're all on the same blockchain we just want people to stick with it and not be overburdened by having to go to 10 sites to get all the features they want. And so far the feature of free big votes is not on our ability list. haha
Yeah, it would be amazing if the best features were accumulated on a couple of platforms. I could see something like SteemPeak really doing well if it had the ability to also upload and live stream video. It is obviously cost prohibitive and hopefully Steemit INC will delegate power to it to help fund development!
Drafts and templates and inline gifs....oh my!
I have no idea why I'm still using Steemit.com.
All these different front ends tend to confuse the Isaria, but I'll give this a shot.
Also, thank you......
<3
I love steempeak. I would love to see a partnership with the @steem-ua project to create a new type of feed that doesn't only work based on post rewards.
I would like to see more testing of Steem-UA before we start integrating it into everything. It has a heavy witness influence on the data set due to the bootstrapping.
I'm waiting to get my hands on the API for it, so I can do some testing myself. In my opinion, more features (data points) are required to create a real Rep replacement. Although I will say anything is better than the current system.
That's a fair point. Ideally, it would be a partnership to discover what data point best predict high quality feeds...which could include in part upvotes, UA score, account history, etc.
I believe it will get better and it is a hell of a lot better than our useless reputation system, but let's take time to test it and tune it before it becomes the de facto ranking system.
would love to see a good debate about it's benefits and drawbacks of UA (like the one you're having with @themarkymark)
And what it could mean for a site like @steempeak using it.
Also where do you envision it's implementations on https://steempeak.com @patrickulrich was also asking today as well so he may have some input here
Estimate for us how time consuming this would be to do
OR would like access to impliment it on our code. Hopefully someone you trust @cryptoctopus
I'd have to ask the developers but we can see if that's an option. Then it's even more probable.
Maybe we could have a sunset clause on it saying we'll use it for X months and if it's still heavily used we'll keep it in the settings. Perhaps this is an acceptable possibility ... also what do you think @themarkymark?
Very nice @themarkymark! I also made a review on steempeak a while ago, it surely has so many benefits! I personally like the "side by side layout" when writing post so you can instantly see how it looks when you make the post. also used the scheduled post, it works wonderfully! cheers man:)
I have yet to try this one out.. Miss @dreemsteem had somehow asked me to try this out. But somehow the idea slipped through my mind and forgot about it.
Having to read this now, it got me interested. I mean i cant wait to use it with all you have just said. Its like that all i needed is staring right infront of me.
I just hoped i had stalked you a little earlier! Sorry a bad habit! Haha..
I have now removed my steemit.com shortcut and added steempeak thanks to you! I have been hearing about steempeak for a few days now. It will be fun exploring this front end. I love how you can comment on a post without having to keep reloading the page. I just don't understand why the feed is given the heading of 'Recommended for you'. Still, if that's my only point of confusion then I'll gladly enjoy living 5 years into the future with steempeak and all the development that it has that Steemit.com lacks.
I must admit (with a little shame showing on my face ;-) ) that I didnโt really knew there were alternatives... But I want to learn (a lot) more about steem, and started looking around. And in one of the posts I came across, I saw a reference to Steempeak, and a link to your (this) post. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of information, as it seems really promising! So Iโm off now, going to check out Steempeak!
This is awesome! I've been playing around with the interface and it's the best I've used. I love the layout and the expanded options it gives Streemians. The only thing that it lacks for me so far is that I have to be able to drill down on a "tag" and see the "new" post in that "tag". I'm sure they can add that feature or they might already have and I haven't found it yet. Wonderful interface and great post explaining it. I'm glad I spent the time to read it. Thankyou @themarkymark. ;9)
As a newbie here i use steemit.com but definitely i would like to try my hands on steempeak of these days to know the difference. This is an interesting article though.
Thanks for sharing this @themarkymark; certainly a convincing "pitch!" I came across SteemPeak a while back when it was very new and it seemed to have promise, but was still a bit thin on features and a bit buggy. From what you're sharing here, it sounds like they have created what SHOULD be the primary Steemit interface.
I presume @steempeak has โ or will have, after HF.20 โ autonomous account creation? I haven't much recommended Steemit (or any of the front ends, for that matter) because it has been so... lengthy. People are used to "Instant on."
Anyway, I'm definitely going to take it for a test drive... one feature I am also interested in (not sure if they have it) is the ability to divide people you follow into user defined "groups" (like Farcebook and twitter has) so you can create custom feeds showing just activity from each group. Not as relevant for me, YET... but surely useful to those who are trying to follow 1000+ people.
If I could I would DOUBLE UPVOTE THIS! Amazing post! This Owl is flying straight to the Peak! Thank you! is there any chance that we get notified when people tag our steemit name in a post?
That's what we're like as consumers. That's why the libertarian argument of the rational consumer often falls flat on its face.
I worked in the industry for years, and I saw tons of people, on a daily basis, being frustrated with their mobile phone and internet service providers, listing dozens of issues, but continuing to pour money into the companies simply because they were so used to being their customer.
i deffinately gotta try it out. i heard about steem peak from freaking steemmonsters hahaha, i usually bounce between busy and steemit. i use steemit for my wallet and usually busy to comment and interact because you're right its impossible to remember who you need to reply to without notifications. the only thing i would ask of busy is that when you click one notification you can still see how many you have left to actually reply to. and partiko is a badass phone app for when you aren't around your computer. Im a big fan of those stats though thats awesome.
Wow i am so glad i came across this post. It certainly looks like like i may switch over entirely as it has so many features I was hoping would manifest on steemit.com - I can stop using a couple of extensions I have needed to keep up with stats which is great. Streamlining will make my experience flow that much better. Thanks for such a detailed post outlining itโs numerous benefits. See you on the other side๐๐ฆ๐ด๐๐๐
Wow, that's pretty impressive! Clearly a much improved version now running, compared to when I first checked this out. Certainly makes for a much nicer Steemit experience. Thanks for sharing this โ re-steeming.
Thanks, my dear friend, thank you very much. This new post has been very nice. From this new post I learned something new and found new things to get you many congratulations
First, thanks for sharing this with us. I am really new at Steemit. I am a designer and I must say, that the design is modern and clear. I will use it in future because I just started using Steemit and so I can switch easier than other members. I like the design better than the design of Steemit. For me it's the same learning using Steemit or learning using SteamPeak.
What I miss is the possibility to see all topics, or I didn't find it. It displays only the popular ones.
Please tell me if has a dark theme! I know it sounds stupid, but it is the main reason I'm sticking to Steemit at the moment. I love my dark themes....
For me, steemit.com is the only official website of steem. Though there is no official website for steem.

I've been on Steemit for 14 days and already experienced half of the challenges you mentioned in this post. It seems like Steampeak would be great. However, I have no idea how to use another front end. Can anyone recommend a post that talks about how to use multiple front ends? I'd like to try it out.

All you have to do is log in to the other one and stop using the other one or not stop. You are free to use any front end that you choose.

This year old post from @drakos helped me start to get it, maybe it will help you. https://steemit.com/steemit/@drakos/steem-private-and-public-keys-demystified

For me, steemit.com is like a Diary; a mirror or reflection of our self; a dictionary of crypto and educational activity.

No keys, you authenticate via SteemConnect (which requires your active key to give them permission to enable their access on your account) but they never receive any keys and keys are never sent over the wire.
SteemConnect is one of the most secure ways to enable third-party services and I believe is now owned by Steemit Inc but previously owned by Busy.

hey @themarkymark, my lingo is limited in regards to this crypto thing.

Feature you forgot to mention is switching between accounts, for people who have many due to development work or for those who want to keep accounts with different focuses, it makes life a lot easier.
Everyone still using steemit.com should give steempeak a try

but why would anyone hide their resteems? dont get it
One of the number one requested features for Steemit.com is the ability to hide resteems from your profile page.

@jarvie here with my personal opinion thanks for the tag @themarkymark

This alternative sounds amazing, too, will try!

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

And so far the feature of free big votes is not on our ability list. haha
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Yeah, it would be amazing if the best features were accumulated on a couple of platforms. I could see something like SteemPeak really doing well if it had the ability to also upload and live stream video. It is obviously cost prohibitive and hopefully Steemit INC will delegate power to it to help fund development!

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

That's a fair point. Ideally, it would be a partnership to discover what data point best predict high quality feeds...which could include in part upvotes, UA score, account history, etc.

More data points are needed.

Also where do you envision it's implementations on https://steempeak.com
@patrickulrich was also asking today as well so he may have some input here
IF IF i understand @steem-ua Then...
However our philosophy is to let the user decide so we would likely make it a settings switch.
Would this be a good solution?
And finally @steem-ua or @cryptoctopus is there anyone on that team who could:
I'd have to ask the developers but we can see if that's an option. Then it's even more probable.
Maybe we could have a sunset clause on it saying we'll use it for X months and if it's still heavily used we'll keep it in the settings. Perhaps this is an acceptable possibility ... also what do you think @themarkymark?

I have now removed my steemit.com shortcut and added steempeak thanks to you! I have been hearing about steempeak for a few days now. It will be fun exploring this front end. I love how you can comment on a post without having to keep reloading the page. I just don't understand why the feed is given the heading of 'Recommended for you'. Still, if that's my only point of confusion then I'll gladly enjoy living 5 years into the future with steempeak and all the development that it has that Steemit.com lacks.

Maybe you are interested in Custom Feed to get the feed of a group of users. For instance:
https://joticajulian.github.io/custom-feed/index.html?type=blog&query=elguille,ydavgonzalez,robertromero,jesusledezma,osita21,yabapmatt,sorin.cristescu,valki,eos-costarica&resteem=false&olderthan=30
In "query=" put the names separated with commas.
And you could save this link in favorites on your browser for future searchs.

Im a big fan of those stats though thats awesome.

But thanks again for sharing. I will use it.
