Nature Focus: Create little green fingers and a love for plants in kids.

I would love to be able to plant something and see it sprout or even to receive a plant and keep it alive.
I would love to be able to have greenfingers.

Reality check @tanyaschutte: "You do not have greenfingers!"

I am not joking. I can't even keep a succulent alive, but the wonderful thing is that my husband and my son can plant anything and it starts to grow. He believes that one can grow anything, and if you fail try again. So today we are going to focus on planting seeds, using not your every day objects as well as growing vegetables from scraps. My main focus for objects will be eggshells and then using bathroom sponges to grow seeds

You will need the following:

  1. A household sponge (we choose green sponges)
  2. Seed packet (we used lettuce, spinach, and broccoli seeds)
  3. A water mister
  4. Shallow plate

Instructions

  1. Trace a shamrock or any shape on the sponges and cut out the shape.
  2. Soak the sponge in water until it is wet, but not dripping water.
  3. Scatter the seeds on top of the sponges and poke some of them in the wholes.
  4. Place the sponges in a sunny spot in the window.
  5. Make sure that the seeds don't dry out, so use a bottle and spray mist on the sponge.
  6. During the evenings they could throw water in the plate to make sure that seeds don't dry out during the night.
  7. Let the kids observe and take notes on what they have seen.
  8. Last question you can ask the kids: "Can seeds grow without soil?"

You will need the following"

  1. Empty egg shells (try to just break off the top to empty them, so you have a good size shell left to use)
  2. Felt pens
  3. Stick-on wobbly eyes (optional)
  4. Cotton wool
  5. Crees seeds
  6. An empty egg box.

Instructions

  1. Clean our your eggshells and put them in holders, preferrably egg cartons, until they are completely dry.
  2. Use the wobbly eyes and the pen to decorate your eggs
  3. Put some of the seeds between the cotton wool and make them wet.
  4. Put these in the eggshells
  5. Put these on the window sills and wait a couple of days for the seeds to sprout.

You see the whole point of this post is to show you that you don't need the traditional pots to plant seeds.

I found this video on youtube: Hope you enjoy it.
