Jailbreak! - a Guzzi SF adventure (G10)

As fast as the incoming Garships were, it was obvious they wouldn't make it in time to make a difference. Guzzi sat in the pilot's chair and played with the displays, getting an ever clearer picture of their impending demise.

The Garship, their Garship, was sitting in the middle of a rough sphere of enemy ships, and each those was firing its energy weapons at point blank range at them. The Garship's shields, or armour, was absorbing most of the energy, and they only felt an occasional jolt, but "How long will these shields last?" he asked.

Schmeep Gar gravelled. "Some time."

"Some time? Oh. Good," said Guzzi.

Suddenly the unmistakable crunching guitar intro to Jailbreak was heard loud in the bridge - and Guzzi noticed was being transmitted to the attacking ships.

Guzzi smiled despite himself and blinked. Where the Garship had been, it now wasn't. The display showed it had moved instantaneously about one hundred kilometres towards the system's star.

'Something's wrong..." he stopped. One of the ships which had been attacking them had exploded. "Playback the last 20 seconds."

The display shifted and once again the Garship was at the centre of the fleet's attention. Then it disappeared, leaving two of the attackers firing directly at each other. One then exploded.

"What?"

"Micro jumps. They're instantaneous," said Schmeep Gar.

And suddenly the Garship was back where it had been.

All in the name of liberty...

This time the energy weapons were the Garship's, and the enemy fleet was starting to take some hits.

"Cool!" said Jazz. "What else we got? Turn the music up and let's do some damage!"
