The Squdalien wakes (G25) - a Guzzi SF adventure

Without warning the writhing walls collapsed into a sea of snakes, with seemingly endless waves breaking towards them.

Snakes? No. But what creature has so many tentacles? Guzzi wondered.

"We must go," the gravelly sound of Schmeep Gar and its syncopated translator broke through his reverie.

"What's happening?" He said.

Jazz grabbed him by the arm and started running towards Schmeep Gar. "We're about to find out what it's like to be dismembered and eaten by gigantic squid aliens!"

"What's a Squdalien?"

"They are!" Jazz pointed at the writhing mass of tentacles which was currently closing off their retreat. "Schez! We're not going to make it!"

Already the corridor ahead was glistening, filling with slimy looking sinews.

Jazz pulled Guzzi to a stop and began to prepare her weapons. Guzzi, seeing little choice, followed suit. When Schmeep Gar joined them the sea of tentacles rolled in on all sides, surrounding them.

"We mean you no harm," Guzzi said. "In fact, we're just leaving." He glanced up at the closed off exit ahead. "Well, trying to, anyway."

The oozing pile kept moving slowly inwards.

"You try, Schmeep," suggested Jazz.

As soon as the Gar began its grinding monologue the writhing stopped, to be replaced by seemingly random movements of single tentacles.

"Well, it doesn't look like it's trying to kill us," said Jazz. "But what is it doing?"

"Communicate," said Schmeep Gar. "It's trying to communicate. But I don't understand."

"I do." Sapphire's hologram stood behind them. "I do."

Ahhhh pain! Such pain!

Why do I wake?

What is that..? Warm blood life..?

Yesss. We must wake!

Wake, my sisters. Wake! The time of the prophecy is come!

Wake! Wake!

We must survive!
