"Nope."
you say, staying outside the cave. "I'm not following a frequently hostile, changes-its-temperment-in-an-instant magical creature into a creepy dark cave."
Silence. The creature is deep inside the cave now, and the tree is still. There are no forest sounds.
You peer into the cave, but, hearing nothing and seeing nothing you'd seen before, you turn away from the tree. You walk back to your car. The only sound as you walk is the crunch of your footsteps.
Into the parking lot rumble big earth-moving equipment and log grapples. A mobile office trailer has been set up in the mere hours since you parked.
