Building the Wall – Tire Pounding for Advanced

Yea that makes sense. If they're air tight and water tight and all that...

You could cover it so it still has the curve of the tires in there though right? I never realized a lot of photos are taken of the unfinished work.

In Earthships they are usually completely packed out and covered with cob or concrete plaster, so in the end you won't know what's inside them. Some people do leave the curves visible, like you described, precisely to show the tire work. Though I've stayed in an Earthship before where they were left completely exposed... in the kitchen out of all places! A great example of what to avoid.

Ouch... with all the food and the heat... in the kitchen?

We're thinking about using boulders on our north facing wall instead of tires because we have a bunch of them that were dug up by the previous owners and laying around in bad places.

The same engineering as the latest earthships without tires.

Of course, whichever resource is most abundant. Rocks are cool because you can puzzle them together. Tires need to be scored, categorized, put in order, etc. Usually you will have to go out and look for specific sizes, as you want each course to be uniformly tall. Yeah, tires are nice, but they do have their drawbacks...

I have only seen the amount of work that goes into it and yea it looks very challenging!
