Ice Road Run invitation

in trailrunning •  7 years ago

This year, I have done a lot of running on the Dettah Ice Road. It is a very unique experience, running at -40C, with the wind howling in from any direction, with nothing but lake standing in the way.

The road should close soon, and since I am travelling next week, I won't get many chances to run it again.

Any of you want to come run it with me?

Does zero incline make it sweeter? The chance for aurora viewing?

How about form drill?

I've touched on this before, but when running on ice, you will be forced to be MUCH more careful about balance in particular, and form in general.

So who's in?

Yeh sorry I don't do ice mainly because I would hate to injure myself and not be able to run. I just searched for this road and its on a website about dangerous roads. lol

I find it safe, with so much room I can run in the middle of the road if I want to.

Where there is firm snow it is easier to keep your feet, and there is usually plenty .

Is this actually water in the summer and it freezes in the winter so it can be used as a road?

Yes, in the photos, I am on Yellowknife Bay, on the Dettah Ice Road, with 100 feet or so of water under about 5 feet of ice.

It used to scare me to be on the ice...I felt a kind of vertigo, but not so much anymore.

That's very cool. Thanks.
