TRAVEL BALI: Three words - Coconut. Milk. Coffee.

Can we just have a moment of silence for coconut milk coffee.
I have nothing but total respect for this creamy, vegan, piece of pure joy.

Any vegans, lactose-intolerant or health conscious people out there will know of the wonders of milk alternatives to animal milks. In the past few years alternative milks have become more widely available in cafes and restaurants everywhere thanks to the conversation about the vegan lifestyle being much more open and accepted.

Traveling Bali I realised that here they take the milk alternatives, known as ‘mylk’, to a whole new level. Most cafes in the tourist towns in Bali will now offer you at least the following mylks:

Coconut
Soy
and Almond

With many others offering hazelnut, roasted almond & date and spiced coconut to name a few.
The beauty of Bali is all of these mylks are made fresh, not from a carton.
If you're new to mylk I would recommend coconut mylk as a starting point. You can't really go wrong!

Coconut flat white at The Spicy Coconut, Canggu

I had my first coconut flat-white in Chiang Mai about 5 years ago and it totally blew me away. In my opinion, it’s the greatest milk alternative of all, especially for coffee, because it’s still thick and creamy, contains some good fats, but it’s also a tiny bit sweet.

It’s my favourite coffee and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t yet made the jump to mylk and is thinking about it. If you're blessed to be in a place where you can get fresh coconut milk, then I would recommend using that over a cartoned version.

Coconut flat white at The Shady Shack, Canggu

I've tried a lot of coconut flat whites over the last week, but my favourites so far in Seminyak and Canggu are:

The Shady Shack, KYND, The Spicy Coconut and Baby Revolver

More about healthy places to eat in Seminyak and Canggu coming soon! Currently eating my way through this island to bring you the best, most honest reviews.

Now I really want a coconut-milk coffee! I normally use soy milk for the coffee, but I'll definitely try this out.

Definitely give it a go, Jessica. I'm trying to drink less soy for health reasons and coconut is a great alternative.
