Nessebar – an UNESCO World Heritage Site

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

The Bulgarian Black Sea Coast hides one of the most well preserved ancient towns, Nessebar. Known as the 'Pearl of the Black Sea', Nessebar has a rich history of over three millennia.

Nowadays, the city is one of the most prominent tourist destinations, having several resorts close by – the largest one being Sunny Beach.

The ancient part of the town with all its historical buildings is situated on a peninsula and it connects to the mainland through a man-made isthmus. In the past, the town was actually situated on an island.

In 1983, UNESCO added Nesebar on its list of World Heritage Sites.

In the summer of 2015, I went there for a few days on the seaside. The city sights are indeed spectacular and they are a proof of the rich history of the small ancient town.
