Java Stories - PRAMBANAN TEMPLE - Yogyakarta

Dear friends! Welcome to one of my
"Java Stories".

Prambanan Temple

Two weeks ago, I spent a week traveling in and around Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. One of the most exciting stops was Prambanan Temple.

For those of you who are interested in who built this beautiful complex, when they did it, and why, here is a little paragraph from wikipedia:

Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound in Central Java, Indonesia, dedicated to the Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva). The temple compound is located approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) northeast of the city of Yogyakarta on the boundary between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.
The temple compound, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu architecture, and by the towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a large complex of individual temples. Prambanan attracts many visitors from around the world.

I wandered around the temple complex for about 2h and it was impressive. I do have to admit that temples usually can't blow my mind anymore after I went to Angkor in Cambodia in 2010. Once you have seen Angkor, all temples in this world have a very hard time getting you excited.

However, Prambanan was one of the most beautiful temple complexes I have seen. I love how the stones are piled up all around the main area.

Then, of course, there is the iconic shape of the towers at sunset.

Last but not least, I took two travel shots of myself that I really like, check them out!

The prambanan temples actualy situated in the so-called "Valley of God", following the immaginary lines that connect between the Indian Ocean and Merapi Volcanoes, that once became sacred places according to the tradition of Javanese peoples. In the valley of God, you could found bunch of the temples such as Sewu, Idjo, Banyunibo, etc. I hope you still have a time to explore them ;) regards!
