We were in Arthur, Illinois recently and happened to come upon a big Amish gathering /horse show going on.
These horses are high steppers. From what I heard, this movement is called "Big Lick" and is what makes Tenessee Walking Horses famous. It was pretty cool to watch, but apparently, the process of getting these hoses to move like this can be pretty cruel. This can be achieved by using specially weighted shoes, or by a practice called soring, which is illegal.
These guys are making ice cream! These loud and clunky ice cream machines are steam powered. It was a very hot day and many folks were taking advantage of the cool treats being made. Though I was was sweating profusely, theses ice cream makes were the only other people there that seemed hot. Everyone else seemed perfectly comfortable, even though they were not wearing what we would consider to be summer clothes.
We have a lot of Amish families around where I live. In fact, there is a really big community just North of us. My friend use to drive them in a fifteen passenger van on trips because obviously, they don't have cars themselves. My other friend and I actually passed by an Amish family at a roadside stand on our way fishing this past weekend.

Looks like it might have been an interesting event. It's kind of funny to think about Amish culture. It's not something I ever thought of.
I didnt know that's how they got the horses to walk like that. Its interesting
