Of Birthdays and Bucket Lists (and Extended Airport Stays)

in travel •  7 years ago

My birthday is right around the corner (October 16) and I am loving my birthday month so far. I've flown by myself, met up with a friend in a different state, attended a retreat with people I met on the internet and, right now, I'm settled in at the gate for my next flight. It takes off tomorrow morning.

This has been a bucket of bucket list items in a minimum of days, and we aren't even halfway through birthday month!

I'm curious what is on your bucket list and when you tend to take action on it. My list smashing began when I turned 30. I shot a handgun, went on a solo trip with my husband (sans kids), cut off my hair in a Lisa Bonet buzz, began publishing in earnest and laid the groundwork for launching my business. I also conceived my youngest daughter, went to my first retreat and challenged myself to regularly attend both yoga and meditation classes.

Much of what I've done has been free, bargain priced or planned for well in advance. I'm thrilled to be reaching for my dreams and finding them attainable.

But overnight at an airport? The Philadelphia airport is nice, but next time I'm getting a hotel so I can sleep without concern.

I have lots of other wishes on my birthday list. Take a peek at my Amazon list, for example. Books galore!

What's on your bucket list? What's your craziest, accidental bucket list adventure?

Advanced happy birthday @shawnamawna hope you are having a great time in your birthday month. Make it special and a best one.

You are amazing! My only memories of the Philadelphia airport are not amazing ones, I hope your night there goes okay ☺️.

I don't seem to have as concrete a bucket list as you, but some things I would love to say that I've done are:

  • living in a different country
  • dramatically quitting my job (e.g. in a shouting match with my boss)
  • running a marathon on every continent

Well done for ticking some things off your list!

Birthdays mean a fresh start; a time for looking back with gratitude at the blessings of another year. It is also a time to look forward with renewed hope for bigger blessings. May you find true bliss as you face your next milestones.
