Since the last 2 days I have been struggling on figuring out how the Tron Wallet operates but it just seems to be very confusing.
I had a balance of around 800 TRX tokens in my wallet, when I clicked on update the Tron Account it has disappeared. So now where do I find these tokens. I am just feeling very clueless on the whole TRX token management.
I have downloaded Tron Link wallet as suggested, but there I do not find anything.
Is there any post or information which would explain step by step as to what is the process of claiming the tokens and how to go about it. Right now I am seeing all my TRX tokens disappeared.

Tron is still the same. I am leaving it for now, not sure what to do with the tokens, let's see may be in near future will be able to figure it out.

Yes, there seems to be a problem claiming Trons now. They seem to vanish when you claim your rewards. I am surprised that no one has raised the issue. I hope they are working on it.
Anyway, regarding your previous problem - which I experienced also, I was lucky to have a friend sorted out the problem for me.
Do not click on the Update your Tron account. Each time you do that, a new account will be generated. If you want to try and look for the 'lost' Tron tokens, you can try downloading the Tronlink wallet.
From there you create accounts using the keys which you generated when you click on the 'Update the Tron Account' - if you still have them. Your Trons should be in one or more of the accounts. From there, you can send them to one account.
I hope that is clear enough. I was lucky to have a friend did all that for me. And that was how he explained it. I hope it is clear enough. The process might take some time. So it is best that you wait until you have some spare time.

You're not supposed to push the update button!
That button will make new keys and your coins are gone? That's how I understood it, anyway. This is a security issue, I mean, what if someone were to hack our wallet and push that button? That button creates a new wallet.

That's crazy, then they should not have the update button. I have lost almost 1000 TRX tokens. I still cannot figure out what to do with these coins. Do we need to have a Binance account or it can be done on other exchanges also. Let's see, henceforth I am not going to do anything with these tokens unless there is good clarity.
