We just got our power back after it had gone out for a bit. There must have been some damaged lines after the snowstorm, even though they were out there cutting off limbs and cutting down trees entirely early Monday. In fact, that made me depressed this morning - they cut down one off my favorite tree friends. Not a limb that was broken - the entire evergreen tree. I don't know why, it was an evergreen - they're rather designed to handle snow. I'm sad. :(
A lot of leaves are off the trees early, since they were only beginning to turn. The two elm trees that I'm fairly certain are Ellie's parents (Ellie is the elm tree on my balcony) are almost completely bare, all at once.
So that's my sad. I had plenty of candles while the power was out, but I found myself wishing I had my solar lantern already. 😊
After the electric came back on, I made myself my first milkshake style protein shake. It tastes quite good, and I am having no allergies - yay! However, it will require me to keep a lot of ice cream on hand if I'm going to drink it this way every day, which could get expensive. I can't eat the cheap gallon-in-a-bucket ice cream, because they're all full of corn syrup or some other shit that I'm allergic to. My normal ice creams are $4/quart from TJ's, or a 1 1/2 quart from King Soopers that's like $3.50-$5.50, depending on sales. Or I could eat gelato, which is even more expensive. I think a quart of Talenti's is like $8. All my safe foods are expensive. Because naturally!
Apparently I need a glucose guardian to buy allergy safe foods (glucose guardian is the gender neutral term for "sugar daddy," lol). Or as a meme I saw the other day said, "I'll take a Splenda Daddy, I understand, times is hard." XD
Allergies are why I can't really use a food bank. Food banks are pretty much repositories of allergens. Corncorncorncornbeanscorncornpotatoescorncornbeanscorncorncornsugarformileswhichimnotallergictobuthypoglycemiacorncorncorn oh look tomatoes which I can eat but those are only for families of four or larger because reasons (?!!?), Corncorncorn. Corn is in everything. Corn is the antichrist. Ya wanna know why poor people are fat and malnourished at the same time? That's why, y'all. All the cheap foods and all the food banks are just carbs, sugars, and additives. They almost never have fresh foods at all, let alone meat, eggs, and dairy or, you know, any protein besides a can of beans. As my allergies get worse, I am more and more restricted to animal foods, which is ironic since I used to be vegan. Even among foods I'm technically not allergic to, I've reacted because apparently if the bee pollinated something I AM allergic to first and got some of that pollen in, say, the watermelon flower, that watermelon now sets me off. No shit. The first time I had that itchy mouth and throat pinprick feeling from a MELON, I about lost my shit. I felt like a flailing-arms anime character yelling, "What. Am I. Supposed. To eat??!!!!" But I'm digressing. 😅
Don't get allergies, y'all. Just say no. I'm going to need to rub one of @lyndsaybowes' chickens to take this curse off me. 😉
Side note: at least my hand-pollinated indoor tomatoes will be safe. Ha ha.
Ok, I'mma stop kvetching now. Be good, Steemit!
