Do I need to get a rabies vaccine if I'm scratched by a squirrel?

I was feeding a squirrel today and got scratched a little bit. After looking around online, some people said I should get a rabies vaccine, while others said there was no need. Finally, I called the hospital. The hospital said that if it was a scratch from a cat or a dog, a rabies vaccine was required. But for pets like mice, squirrels, or rabbits, getting the vaccine was optional, depending on personal choice. Do any of you have friends who were scratched by pets such as mice, squirrels, or rabbits? What was the final outcome?
