Today I did NOT want to hit the mat. I had plenty of time, I didn’t wake up to messages from clients and my body feels pretty good in terms of soreness. I really was just over the whole idea of putting my shoes on, trudging down to the bathroom, rolling the mat out and doing a zillion downward dogs.

Lol I guess we cant wake up every day excited about achieving ultimate mystical transcendence. That being said, the class started with the instructor saying:

"Sometimes you don’t always want to roll out our your mat, but you’ll never be sorry you did…"

Damnit.
ok
FINE.
Let’s do this.

This class was the perfect 80%. I didn’t have to modify much but I still found it challenging with room for improvement and there was some deep hip stretches which I’m always in need of. It felt really good to be finished, laying on the mat, tapped, but not in pain. We’ve been reading about the 80% rule in IKIGAI:The Japanese secret to a long and happy life this month, and since it’s been on the brain I’m noticing it more and more.

Considering I’m an 110% kinda gal. Learning to challenging myself, work to and even eat until 80% full, means I’m still able to grow and progress, but breaks the cycle of burnout from doing too much and guilt and apathy from doing too little.

80% man it’s where it’s at.

+ Deep thoughts?

I think there were some, but I don’t remember. I was however, totally at peace. Breathing deep and relaxed. Any time I get into deep hip work it really sets me free physically and emotionally. I’m telling you, stretch your hip flexors, psoas, and IT band. ESPECIALLY ladies, and especially if you’ve gone through a heavily stressful or traumatic time.

I thought the term “we store stuff in our hips” was just a nice saying.

It’s not.

Do it!

Until tomorrow friends!

It's Monday morning!!! Okay!!! I didn't want to get out of my warm and cosy bed at 3 am! Where's that coffee at? Darn it! Stubbed my toe on the way to the clothes line looking for pants in the dark! Kudos to you for making down to do your yoga. I'm not that dedicated on Monday mornings!

Haha im not sure I ever realized it was a monday morning until just now- but 18 days straight is starting to get a little old lol- never the less! we're more than hale way there, so it's a downhill glide from here- at least that's what I'll keep telling myself. ;)

Love this! I really resonated with your post today :) And I've loved the concept of Ikigai since I learnt about it, so am very happy to see it here!

One of my favourite diagrams:

And now back to yoga... I'm feeling a bit tired for a 46 min workout, but I'll do my best! See you on the other side :)

Get it girl! It didn’t find it TOO grueling- it’s not a Gigi class after all lol- going to be posting about IKIGAI soon cant wait 💕 proud of u! Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Really enjoyed this one! Loved the progression into crow pose, it worked quite well for me :)

Looking forward to the ikigai posts!

yay! go girl go! I liked this one too the really deep stretches really help me open it- I'm not quite at crow pose yet, but when it comes up i try to lean into my arms with my feet still on the ground to build up that arm strength and balance- im so over my head in this intermediate level, but I guess that's the point of a challenge haha

Oh I am hardly able to do the crow pose either!!! But I thought the progression from this video worked well for me to get to the pose, so I'll be using this progression to practise from now on!! I can hold it for about half a second most of the time :P

It is my current favourite pose, so I can't wait to be able to do it properly :D And yes I agree, I love that intermediate is so much more challenging, I really needed that :)

Its funny, there's a video that the other instructor crista shillington does where she says,

"if you can't do it in this lifetime, there's always next lifetime, don't worry about it"

Maybe I'll be able to do crow next time around ;) hehe

Hahaha! I don't think my strong will would allow that ;)

Hehe.. we all have those days! Sometimes I really don't feel like working out either but then it always feels so good after!

its true, ive never ever regretted it once- the daily yoga thing is certainly a challenge, making time on even the packed days but ive been feeling really great for it <3

I did not know about ikigai or its meaning, but it totally resonates with me! Thank you for that :) Hope you have a restful rest of the day and recharge till 110%!

haha you're too sweet @polebird! Yes stay tuned on the IKIGAI stuff, i'm planning a post or 2 about it as we speak <3

Looking forward to it girl!

daaw you da best!
