The Human Breast: Facts & Fiction

in air-clinic •  6 years ago

The human breast is the soft tissue on the front of the chest wall. It's well developed in females and rudimentary in males. Why?

Primarily it fulfills a vital need of providing "Breast Milk" for newborn infants to feed. This milk contains alot of vital nutrients, antibodies and immune substances that helps the baby develop properly.

Suffice it to say that the breast also provides an opportunity for mother-to-child bonding. As the baby suckles, he/she is afforded the opportunity to look the mother in the eyes and remember her face for future references. That's why a child may refuse visitors but instantly accept the mother.

The breast also serves a sexual function. It is conspicous and therefore one of the attraction builders for male-female reproduction. Some men prefer the sight of breasts as a turn on.

Psychologically, the size of a woman's breast represent FERTILITY. She feels like a woman. She has a great confidence that she can attract the kind of man that can provide and protect her offsprings.

Conversely, the males see her as the kind of woman who can easily produce offsprings and nurture them properly. No wonder they also hope to become her first offspring by feeding from her too.

As the woman grows older, the connective tissues and ligaments holding the breasts firm begin to slack. The milk-producing breast tissues begin to die off and get replaced by fat cells.

At this point the breasts start sagging. The woman is no longer as fertile as she used to be. She may be gradually approaching menopause and her sex hormone levels start dropping. Hence, the relationship between the breasts and fertility gets even clearer.

This essay will not be complete without a quick mention of the various diseases that can plague the female human breasts. Everyone has heard about breast cancer. At least you know someone who has suffered from it one way or another.

If you notice any abnormal nipple discharge from your breasts or swelling or skin changes or breast pain, do not hesitate to complain to the appropriate health facility.

More in-depth discussion of specific breast diseases will be taken later.
