Would You Like to Buy My Dream? | Ramengirl🍜

Dream-selling Custom

Nebula

I’m helping English translation for my friend's M/A degree dissertation, these days. My friend started to get super nervous as the deadline approaches, so one day I asked my friend, "I had a really nice dream yesterday, would you like to buy my dream?" then my friend said "What are you talking about? How can I "buy" your dream?"? In fact, my friend is Canadian, my friends said that in the West there is no culture to buy and sell dreams like Korea.

I’ve heard that dreams are important in the West as much as in Korea, and the concept of interpretation of dream exists in there as well, so I thought there would be customs like buy and sell dreams like us.

In Korea, we sell the dream if we think someone else needs the luck. We usually use cash when trading dreams. The best dream is a dream of a pig because pig is a symbol of MONEY, so people love to buy pig's dream the most

I wonder if selling dream is only Korea's unique culture or another country has a similar custom.

I dream more often than other people, and when I was a child, if I had a special dream at night, I always talked to my mother next morning. Sometimes(depending on my dream), my Mom said, "Wait, wait a minute!" and she took out $1 from her wallet and gave me. And said “Tell me that you sold your dream to me, and then talk about the rest of your dream. Also, you shouldn’t tell your dream to other people okay?” Sometimes I sell my dream to my Dad or my grandmother. It sounds so funny but it was normal to sell my dream to someone. And yesss, this is how I made my pocket money when I was young ;)

In fact, something has never happened to those who bought my dreams. So I think it is not that effective hahaha

But how cool it would be if we can buy and sell our dreams for real. Then I could sell my dreams all to you guys.

Hope you have a great day :) Thank you!

interesting culture, I never heard about it. I have some Korean friends, and never heard them talked about it, will ask them next time. But yes, I would agree that it would be really cool that we can sell and buy dreams, wondering how world will change if that comes true. :)

@susanli3769 Yeah, you should ask them about it. It would be really interesting topic to talk about ;)

I never heard of selling dreams before, I guess you learn something new everyday. In Africa dreams have meanings and are often interpreted to mean different things. Thank you for sharing with us :)

@practicaleric That's really interesting! I guess every country has different meaning :)

@ramengirl Is selling dreams something that korean kids usually do, or do mature people actually do this too? Also, I assume you can only do it in your family, right?

Korea has a very interesting culture. This post really piqued my interest in this! It's fascinating to see how your culture approaches dreams!

Hi, @roberttene :)
Actually, it doesn't matter kids or adults, everyone can sell their dream :)
Also, you could sell your dream to family or friends or even to a stranger! Thank you.

Would you like to marry me? So We can buy your dream together!

Hahaha that's pretty funny :)
Thank you for making me laugh!

How beautiful this part of their culture, I am from Venezuela and in my country we do not sell dreams, it must be a way to be closer to peace

Awww how cute pillows ;)

good good posting,
you too, vote my posting please

Such an interesting culture, I have never heard anything like this. What if someone lies? I mean, one can make up stories about the dreams (whereas in fact, he didn't dream the night before).

And, people only buy beautiful dreams right? What is the exact purpose of buying it?

The main purpose of selling dreams is to give somebody lucky :)
I think somebody could lie but... most of the people I don't think so...
You can sell and buy dreams to anybody but usually people doing it with really close people like family or friends. So you want to sell your dream to somebody you really care :)

Aah....I see...thank you for sharing this unique culture. If someone dreams a lot, he can be rich hahaha

That is one way to capitalize lol.

I loved reading this story...but am curious it it was something of a family tradition? as you mention only selling them to your family? or is it infact a korean culture thing? my small upvote..I suppose is kind of buying your dream ? :)

You can sell and buy dreams to anybody but usually, people doing it with really close people such as family or friends. Because they want to give lucky to people who you care about :)

I've never heard of this before. What a neat concept.

Thank you! @themerrylotus

That is pretty interesting. I noticed after I started keeping a dream journal (I would write my dreams as soon as I woke up) It was much easier to remember them and also to keep more detail.

Have you heard of lucid dreaming? I've done it a few times. That's wild too.

Haha! 😆 Interesting and unusual tradition:) Thank you for sharing, today I found out something new!

I love this idea. Im going to pass it on to my friends that have children.
At the moment Im in the Steem Dream :)

Thanks
@fortified

Very interesting. I like the way you write.
My favorite part of this post was when you said" Nothing has ever happened to anyone who bought my dreams so I think its not very effective" hahahahaha love your honesty and I would agree!
