Week 3 of Couch to 5k Running PlayliststeemCreated with Sketch.

The runner's high was like nothing I'd ever felt. I ran past a metal sculpture in downtown kansas city while the sun rose behind it, the rays gleaming off the barrels. It was years ago, but the sense memory is branded on my brain.

I created my own playlist using audacity for week 3 of the C25k playlist. I looked for songs that had 150-160 beats per minute. Being my first playlist, I didn't really take into account when I was walking versus when I was running, although I wish I had. I also wish I had taken into account more of the genre/sound of the songs so that they sounded more like a mixtape rather than a random mish-mash.

"When I'm Gone" by 3 Doors Down

Everything I am and everything in me
Wants to be the one you wanted me to be

I hadn't really thought this one through beyond the fact that it had 160 beats per minute. I like the lyrics and the song reminds me of high school in a weird emo nostalgia way. But its not a very motivating running song. Thankfully it's during the 5 minute warm-up walk, so no biggie.

"Breezeblocks" by Alt-J

Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut

The beat of this one is a lot of fun, and excellent for running. The lyrics seem to be reminiscent of running- "muscles" "toe to toe" "here I go" "jump up". Plus it's a lot easier to imagine myself as a "wild thing" when the run is just beginning.

"All these Girls" by Atlas Genius

So quick but we took it slow
Had to face it that we didn't know
You sing the words and I'll pay you what I got

This one has nothing to do with running. But I kind of liked it and it has 160 beats per minute so....

"Start Over" by Beyonce

Maybe we reached the mountain peak
And there's no more left to climb
And maybe we lost the magic piece
And we're both too blind to find

I feel like I'm always starting over with my fitness goals, so this song is kind of fitting. Give up, start again... But it's a more pop than some of the other songs. I think it could have gone on a seperate playlist from some of the alternative titles.

"Mess Around" by Cage the Elephant

The heat is rising and only getting hotter, ready to blow
I think I'll pour myself a glass of water, let it flow
She'll show you what she's made of
Yeah she's comin' for ya
She's gonna try to break ya
Yeah she's comin' for ya
No, she don't mess around

This one might be my aspirational anthem for running. I'd like to be someone who didn't mess around (I shamble around but that's different). Hopefully I have an opportunity to catch that runners high again soon, although that is harder to do on the hamster wheel of doom.

Yaaaaas! I heard it live and have been mesmerized ever since

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

I think it could have gone on a seperate playlist from some of the alternative titles.
It should be separate instead of seperate.
