November was a crazy, mad month. It was NaNoWriMo which stands for National Novel Writing Month, for those of you who did not know. The @freewritehouse decided to hold their own #NaNoWriMo and 17 freewriters joined to write their own novel consisting of 50,000 words each in one month.
Since I am not an aspiring author I did not attempt to write a novel, however I was able to participate by being a #NovMadFan, which stands for November Madness Fan. The fans were cheerleaders, to support and encourage the writers to keep going. I had my own goal in mind. I decided to read every single word from day one until the end, but it would be impossible for me to do that for all 17 writers, so I had to choose five. @mariannewest, @felt.buzz, @improv, @bennettitalia and @carolkean.
You can just imagine the pressure the writers were under, and I also felt some pressure because I didn't want to miss one day and I didn't want to fall behind. @mariannewest only wrote excerpts every now and then; thanks a lot for teasing me Marianne, so that left me with four to cheer on. Well, let me tell you, I was blown away by the talent of these writers. Their stories were unique, complicated stories; stories within stories, with many characters and very well written. Their creativity is through the roof and I highly recommend that you read their stories. You will be hooked after reading the first chapters.
When I was a child, my parents didn't read books to me, nor did they encourage me to read. I hate to read because I do not comprehend what I read. I have to read each page, over and over again for it to finally sink in. Two years of tutoring in elementary school didn't help. The only books I liked to read were the children's encyclopedias. And, I never read a novel. It wasn't required in school and I had no desire to read one. It took way too long; it was frustrating and a chore, so I didn't bother.
I am a grandmother now and as a #NovMadFan, your novels were the first I have ever read. To my 4 1/2 #NaNoWriMo s, I can't thank you enough for making my experience a pleasurable one and you are truly an inspiration to aspiring writers and readers alike.
This resident cat is sending you much love!
This cute gif is brought to you by @snook. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Similarly steemit has gifted writing and reading to me.
I also missed the early reading experience, I had no confidence with reading aloud in class. My spelling was terrible (still is) and the words would swirl and I would panic and struggle to speak, a contrast to my unruly behaviour that developed in its place to compensate.
I have made a specific effort to make an evening book a part of my children's evening settling, to them it is as much a part of getting ready for bed as bathing and brushing their teeth. For me, all those nurturing settling rituals were absent from my parents. Having a settling ritual is important, their joy of books, reading and writing is a wonderful bonus.
I have 10 years between my children's age's. My teenager is a brilliant writer (she struggled with reading and spelling when younger), but is now in the process of writing her own novel, she blows my mind. Her teacher recently reinforced my potentially bias views when he told me he feels he is editing a peers work rather than marking grade 8.
We have done the weekend prompts together a few times (unpublished just for fun), I proudly read mine, with a bit of a giggle, then my husband and I find ourselves picking our jaws up from the floor when she reads hers, which she then throws away and I retrieve it from the garbage. We read every night to her from 6 months old, until she was able to read to herself. Now she has her night light on close to midnight sometimes writing her own novel, she is 14.
Our 4 year old couldn't imagine going to bed without a book or 3, it is also a great ritual sleep trigger too. He is at the stage where you staple a dozen pages together, he draws a story, and proudly "reads it" aloud to anyone he can corner.
I joined steemit with no real plan and have found a passion for writing, and a plethora of inspiration in the amazing humble writers here.
Thank you all for your work. Recently I have not been well enough to write, I am reading and listening. I have caught up with @felt.buzztiny Story and am working through @improv's novel. Both have blown my mind.
I intend to read them all. I have a limit to my energy, sometimes they are translated in audio form, maybe I will try that too.

My day is not full, but I see rainbows where I may see grey clouds when I get lost in the magic of steemit poetry and writing. Or humbled by being welcomed into lives shared by a stranger now friend in a county I will most likely never visit.

Thank you for sharing your inspirational story. Your children have imagination and creativity at such a young age that I can only dream of at my age now. They have a bright future ahead of them. Kudos to you.
I made sure that my 2 kids were not going to miss out on what I did and reading books to them before bed was a ritual also, and it was a special time for all of us. I had a large, thick book full of nursery rhymes and we called it, "The special night time book." I got tired of reading them so I made up my own tunes and sang them. When my daughter was only 2 years old, she could recite every single nursery rhyme in that book. She enjoyed reading which I was grateful for but now she has a successful career and can't find any time to read. I keep telling her that she needs to find a happy balance in her life and not to let work consume her whole life. And I was proud that my son followed in my footesteps, reading to his kids every single night. His oldest who is 8 years old is a book worm and I love it.
I was smiling when I read that you are reading @felt.buzz and @improv's stories. They sure are amazing writers. And I back you up on encouraging others to keep writing for you, me and to all. There is always something to learn here on this platform on any given day.
I truly an sorry that you have health problems and you will be in my prayers. I have a few myself which keep from reading and posting in intervals but I keep reminding myself that things could be much worse for me. We just need to take one day at a time.
This is beautiful:

It was a pleasure to meet you @girlbeforemirror and thank you once again. : )
You both are amazing @whatisnew and @girlbeforemirror. Big love and hugs to you both and your families. You know, I am pretty pessimistic about the future of the human race. But if there are more mothers like you two out there I will be happy to admit I am wrong. :)
That is one of the most heartwarming things I have read in a long time!! What an honor that you read your first novels through the freewrite initiative!!
And you are welcome that you only had to read a little of mine 😉
Thank you for always being such a wonderful supporter!!
Thank you so much for your comments and this wonderful post!
There were two of my "fans" who commented every single day, and made comments that showed they were keeping up and speculating on the story (and therefore kept me on my toes, because I had to make sure the story made sense!) and you were one of them.
You made a huge difference to my #NaNoWriMo / #freewritemadness experience and really helped me hobble over the finish line! Thank you so much!
I will need to scroll back and read the novels... I don't like reading unfinished series... Because I don't like the wait... 😅 You are awesome... Able to follow through 4 1/2 novels at one time.
Yes, you don't want to miss the amazing novels that I read. I will have to go back and read the ones that I haven't read yet. So much talent here. Thanks for the prompt. Love and hugs right back at ya!
