The Process of Development of Accessores of Shilla Dynasty.

in history •  7 years ago

Everything has it’s beginning. But It is very difficult to confirm exact time of it’s start. Especially in historical field, it is nearly impossible to find out when and what was a start. We could estimate it’s process through excavated relics. In this respect, the process of development of the golden crown and the accessories could be presumed.

There were lots of relics of accessories before the golden ones.
The golden crown and the accessories were latest things in chronicle base.
The first accessories I saw in the national museum in Gyeongju, Korea were made up of the glasses.

_2040064.JPG

The glass necklaces and bracelets looked so modern. Even if someone say those accessories were made nowadays, no one will doubt about that.

_2040066.JPG

_2040069.JPG

You can fine the bending glasses. The type of bending glasses were as same as the bending jade of the golden crowns. In previous posting, I explained the bending jade meant the authority of King's political power

_2040068.JPG

At first time, I saw the glass beads were big. But at that time, making glasses could not be easy thing for their technical level. The glass beads were transparent. It meant that the level of making glass was high as we think.

Next accessories displayed in the window were Jade necklaces and bracelets. The color of jade what I saw was red.
The red color jade was not common in Korea.
Usually the color of jade was green.

_2040074.JPG

The next accessories were made up of the glasses. One thing different from first stage was the size of beads. In my guess, it meant that the technics making the glass beads became more delicate that before.
Making small glass beads must be more difficult technology than before.

P2040046.JPG

P2040047.JPG

What I saw in next window was the bending jade. But it was black. Black bending jades seemed crude that that of the golden crown.

P2040144.JPG

At the same time, there were many necklace made with small beads of various materials

P2040111.JPG

P2040146.JPG

P2040143.JPG

At first time it was not easy for me to align the process of the accessories, because those thing were displayed not by the same kinds but by the chronicle order.
When I was arranging the photos, I acknowledged there was a link between the accessories.
The development of technology would be accelerated with the contact with other culture.

In this point there were lots of contact with other cultures.
It was amazing Shilla dynasty had the contact with other cultures in the corner of Korean peninsular

I don’t know weather there is any meaning to arrange these relics in my concept.
But I hope my arrangement help you when you visit the national museum in Gyeonju, Korea.

Thank you @slowwalker for sharing such history of Korea under the Shilla dynasty. The Jade and Glass bead accessories are truly delicately crafted and now are thee treasure of every korean as part of the legacy of their forefathers unto every Korean.

Very cool, I love seeing stuff like this

An interesting post, @slowwalker.

It seems that the measure of a kingdom's achievement lies not just in monumental architecture, temples and tombs of kings , but also in the decorative jewelry provided for women :)

These fashion accessories are exquisite examples of glass making and jade jewelry that are truly beautiful and as you say, comparable to modern products.

The colour range of jade beads from basic black through traditional green to vibrant red was impressive. These Shilla women were throughly modern in their adornments.

Perhaps the king's authority was symbolized not only by the power to bend Jade but to accede to the wishes of his female subjects.

Happy Queen, happy reign?

Have a good day, my friend

they too much had paid for accessories. lol.

Wow qué impresionante información y tan fascinantes fotografías saludos.

This stuff is sooo cool. Following :D

I tend to ignore the exact time of any historical relics, I prefer to adore each effort of our anchestor. What an astonishing story...

That museum is fantastic, you are lucky to have it in your country. It make me want to go to some more museums here in the US. I am sad that the Olympics are over. Thanks for another great post!

hahaha
Thank you for reading.
Yes, I was happy for Olympics ;))

Interesting @slowwalker, I think it's made with technology these days, it turns out in the dynasty shilla era, amazing. certainly of course shilla dynasties established relationships with the outside world, because they are able to make jewelry so beautiful with technical that seems impossible in ancient times ..

the beads are looks good air, is that the red one are ruby jade stone? or it just an normal jade from 60's? :)

thanks for sharing sir @slowwalker

While I was in Gyeongju there were a lot of things that put me in awe. The science and the amazing story behind all the relics and we are lucky to see the trace of this dynasty. There are a lot of unique elements in the history trail. Thanks for the informative write up!!!

How amazing
I like this ....

That looks amazing, its nice to see the pictures as I would never beable to see it. Thanks for sharing!

True, very pretty and I was so amazed to see red jade, very rare and I have never seen it ..
The necklace is also very beautiful and does not look ancient

During my university days i had a subject "Anthropology" through which i learnt how the ancient societies used to look and yes, being a student of cultural studies it was our utmost desire to know their material as well as non-material culture. So, this point is 100% true that modern jeweler is basically originated from the ancient one and none can make a difference among both.

Thanks a lot for taking me back to my Anthro -Class ;)

jade is very useful, and become a jewelry and its price is very expensive, and jade is very famous, in Indonesia too jade is in the interest by everyone, and a good story, success is always friend @slowwalker greetings from us in Indonesia

Image and explanation is fine... but I feel something is missing? I don't know what is that missing... But I really feel different... The story and explantion is not the same like the previous...

A very interesting legacy @ slowwalker is the ancient stuff if no one history experts we can not know for sure a thing, you are incredible friends very much know about the history of the world ..

Really love your high quality post on Korean ancient history. I think you qualify to be called a Korean Steemit Historian! I know you must be a busy guy. Didn't get a chance yet to check out Anthony Bourdain's travel shows yet have you? I think you'd find them fascinating. Anyway my Korean Brother! Hope you are well, have a great day! -Dan

Outside the main hall, the Emille Bell (King Seongdeok’s Bell) is one of the largest and most beautifully resonant bells ever made in Asia. It’s said that its ringing can be heard over a 3km radius when struck only lightly with the fist. Unfortunately, you aren’t allowed to test this claim.

I really like the craft of those glass necklaces because they are so advanced for their time and still looking fashionable in the current time,

And i also never see Red Jade and most commonly seen a Green Jade, thanks to you now i see that Red Jade,

Ancient ever modern jewels. Women would enjoy the joy of today too.

Reading through your post made me think about what the archaeologists of the future will find from our era. Nothing seems to be made to last these days except plastic and nuclear waste.

hahaha
It is sad story

I visited some historical places in our area mostly the arrangement of their collections has deeply meaning. Some of collections are just replica of the original but still the story behind is the important things that people need to know. Thank you @slowwalker for giving importance of the history.
