At present we all have smartphones in our hands. Wherever we buy a good smartphone, we can take good pictures from that smartphone. And now we don't notice that even though the cameras of any two mobiles are the same, the image quality is not the same for them. In other words, even though the megapixel cameras of the two mobiles are the same, the image quality is not the same in their case. For example, if you have two mobiles in front of you and the camera of these two mobiles uses 48 megapixels, the camera aperture of the two mobiles is the same, the lens is the same or the whole camera hardware is the same; But it was seen that one phone is giving better photos than another phone.
The difference in photo quality between the two phones may be due to the ISP or Image Signal Processor of your mobile. So, what is this ISP or Image Signal Processor and what does it do to your device, what is its contribution to the photo quality and video quality of your mobile? Friends, I will discuss these issues in today's tune. That's why you must watch the tune at the end.
Is this an ISP or Image Signal Processor?
So see, ISP or Image Signal Processor is a dedicated processor. Which works differently from your Central Processing Unit or CPU. In the case of a smartphone, it is made between SoC or System on chip. The job of the ISP of a device is to perform tasks related to the camera. That is, all the processing that your camera has is done by your phone's ISP or Image Signal Processor.
This is exactly what your device's ISP now does. The image sensor that your phone has, but can not see any kind of color. In order to get the color from your sensor, a filter is put on it, which is called Bayer filter. Where 50% of the pixels in this Bayer filter are green. And 25% of all other pixels are blue and the remaining 25% is red.
If a photo is clicked through this Bayer filter, then every Green can come. And this is where the ISP comes in handy. The ISP uses very complex and heavy algorithms to look at each pixel and determine what color each pixel should actually be. After which you are given a final result, which looks real at once. The main thing that is doing here is, ISP or Image Signal Processor.
That is, if your ISP is good, he will process the photos well. Which will make it feel better to see the output result. On the other hand, if your ISP or Image Signal Processor is bad, then the condition of your photo will be bad. In this case, no matter how good the megapixel camera of that mobile is, the image quality will be worse than any other camera of the same megapixel. This is the main function of the ISP or Image Signal Processor.
The ISP also has a lot more work to do. Where it controls the entire camera system of your mobile. Camera Auto-Focus, Camera auto exposure, HDR, White balance, etc. of your phone's camera all control your phone's ISP or Image Signal Processor. In other words, if the ISP of your phone is good, then the image taken with your camera, Camera Auto-Focus, Camera auto exposure, HDR, White balance, etc. will all be good. And if the ISP of your phone is bad or not good quality, then the image quality will be bad in these cases. Where the quality of the ISP is poor, it affects the camera's image processing.
Since all aspects of your phone's image processing are controlled by the Image Signal Processor; So how high you can record video at high resolution and how much refresh rate you can get depends on the ISP of your device. For example, suppose you install a high resolution image sensor on a camera; However, the result that will come from that high resolution image sensor will have to be processed by your ISP or Image Signal Processor. In this case, if the ISP of your device does not have the ability to process that high resolution image, then it will not work.
Now you must understand that in order for the photo quality of a device to be good, the ISP or Image Signal Processor of that device must also be good. If the ISP of a device can process the image well, then a good quality picture can be expected from that camera. Where a camera has more megapixels, but if its processor is bad, it can not process the image well and it does not come as a good picture and output. So the quality of the picture taken with two phones or camera of the same mega pixel may be different due to the image processor. You already know that.
I hope you understand the important role of ISP or Image Signal Processor in improving the photo quality or video quality of a device.
