Currently more than 4,500 exoplanets have been discovered, most of them detected by the Kepler satellite using the transit method, this method consists of observing a fixed portion of the sky in the visible light range and measuring the light curve of the stars in its field of vision, looking for planets that cross in front of their stars.
Actualmente ya se han descubierto más de 4.500 exoplanetas la mayoría de ellos detectados por el satélite Kepler utilizando el método de tránsito, este método consiste en observar una porción fija del cielo en el rango de luz visible y medir la curva de luz de las estrellas en su campo de visión, en busca de planetas que cruzan frente a sus estrellas.
When a planet crosses in front of its star it causes the light that reaches us from said star to decrease even if it is minimally, this decrease in light and together with its duration is what astronomers use to know the characteristics of the new exoplanet candidate as the size, the mass, the speed and even its composition.
Cuando un planeta cruza por delante de su estrella hace que la luz que nos llega de dicha estrella disminuya aunque sea ínfimamente, esta disminución de la luz y junto con su duración es lo que los astrónomos utilizan para conocer las características del nuevo candidato a exoplaneta como el tamaño, la masa, la velocidad e incluso su composición.

But as much as animations such as the one in the header may confuse us, the data collected by Kepler are not videos, or even photographs like the ones we are used to seeing, what Kepler sends are huge amounts of numbers that astronomers have to analyze and decide if it is an exoplanet or some other disturbance.

And it is precisely on that huge amount of data sent by Kepler for almost 5 years that artificial intelligence algorithms are applied, specifically a Deep learning algorithm called ExoMiner, a neural network that has been trained to discover the characteristic data of the exoplanets of among all that maremagnum of recorded data.
Y es precisamente sobre esa ingente cantidad de datos enviados por Kepler durante casi 5 años que se aplican los algoritmos de inteligencia artificial, concretamente un algoritmo de Deep learning llamado ExoMiner, una red neuronal que ha sido entrenada para descubrir los datos característicos de los exoplanetas de entre todo ese maremagnum de datos registrados.

The algorithm runs on NASA's Pleiades supercomputer and can distinguish between the heaps of noise and the false positives and the real exoplanets, as you will understand, this is a great saving of time and effort for astronomers as we have to bear in mind that Kepler analyzes thousands and thousands of stars simultaneously.
El algoritmo se ejecuta sobre la super computadora Pléyades de la NASA y puede distinguir que son exoplanetas reales entre los montones de ruido y los falsos positivos, como comprenderéis esto supone un gran ahorro de tiempo y esfuerzo para los astrónomos pues tenemos que tener en cuenta que Kepler analiza miles y miles de estrellas simultáneamente.
ExoMiner is much more accurate and more reliable than existing classification methods and, although we are sorry, better human experts than can fall into all kinds of biases, furthermore, this is only the beginning as there are other missions that also use the transit method. and with which ExoMiner can also be used.
ExoMiner es mucho mas preciso y más confiable que los métodos de clasificación existentes y, aunque nos pese, mejor los expertos humanos que podemos caer en todo tipo de sesgos, además esto solo es el comienzo pues existen otras misiones que también utilizan el método de tránsito y con las que también se puede utilizar ExoMiner.

This work really has to be done by a super computer, since billions of stars and billions of potential exoplanets pass through Kepler's field of vision, exominer is very precise and when it says that something is a planet, it really is a planet. The recently found planets do not resemble earth. As exominer explores billions and billions of exoplanets scientists realize that our planet is definitely unique.
