Hello my dear Steemians,

After chatting about the changes that is slowly being on the way and going to be introduced such recent modification of Curator rules and Engagement challenges we were talking about Upvotebots. There are some users who know exactly what it is because for those of you who started on early stage of Steemit blockchain it was normal and there were many who used it.

There are some users who joined not long ago and might not know about that often I hear such questions what is Upvotebot?

Upvote bots: how it is began

In old time, before Split of Steemit and Hive people used Upvote bots in order to receive more payout for their post, so how it works?

  • the user can delegate Steem Power to such Upvotebot account, the bigger your delegation the more payout the users receive.

What is the benefit for users?

  • user receives a daily Upvote from such account, no matter what he posts, no matter what quality of content users have

  • sometimes users will receive daily dividends, it is not bog but still something

  • using such Bots, user will be able to grow his account

What is the negative side of such bots?

  • users delegate their Steem Power and often have minimal Sp that means they can not support others. Often they might have 100K but if that is delegated the user has nothing to support others

  • many users slowly do not pay attention to the quality of their posts, because they know that they will be upvoted with the same % of Upvote by bot account

During the time before split, slowly such system became less popular again because of less quality but big payout for such posts. Often to regulate that Downvotes started and such posts with after downvotes had little in payout so it was time when it was less beneficial to delegate. Users stopped delegating and majority returned to manual Upvotes.

Upvote bots: is that good or bad?

Nowadays on Steemit it is allowed to use Upvote bots, some of them are very well known such:

  • Upvu, delegated SP 19.78Mio
  • upex, delegated SP 4.66 Mio
  • abb-curation, delegated SP 4.11 Mio
  • justyy, delegated SP 2.14 Miobut also there are many others

It is clear that when many will delegate their SP, then it will be less people who will be able to upvote manually others and support others, but is are the Upvote Bot accounts are really bad?

We always complain that there are not enough investors and we need to invite people who will be investing in Steem, for people who have enough finance to invest, they need to have some attractive reason why and what they receive from it. Having such Upvote system, we will be able to remove the large amount of free Steem from market and stake them as Steem Power.

Less free Steem on market the higher value of Steem currently with those Upvotebots 30 Mio Steem is firmly staked as SP and users after their payout convert their Steem into Steem Power and delegate.

Upvote bots and delegating to Community accounts

Slowly we see that some of the communities using the same scheme, they ask to delegate to the community account and the account gives certain % of Upvote to users and/ or sometimes they pay weekly dividends too.

Often it was not clear what is the difference between those two delegations and why delegations.

Now with new changes it is no strict restriction in regards to Upvotebots usage and the curators are free to support such posts if they think that the content deserves it.

What to consider when support users who use Upvote bots?

it is always a matter of our honest work as Curators when we decide to support such posts:

  • if the post has already payout more than $50+ on daily basis and if you found any other great quality post with minimal payout then supporting such post of user who did not get much potentially there is a chance that we will motivate the user and who knows we might gain a great, interesting person.

Many of us can tell the same story from our own Steemit life when one attentive gesture of a whale made us to continue working and creating.

There are definitely different opinions and each of them has its right, it is normal, I would be more surprised if we all had the same opinion.

So welcome for opinions!

Hi @rosselena, thank you for taking time and reading my post, I am pleased to read your opinion and I understand what you mean. It is often when we know that we receive something no matter if we put effort or not we become lazy to spend our precious time for that and that is the reason why quality suffers. Any activity on such blogging platform requires time for reading, but also engaging, without that quality suffers.

I agree in regards of big payout posts but when there are posts who receive small payout because of their small delegation but still showing good engagement and quality in such cases the support should be given. It is like everything in our live we need to think, assess and decide.

I don't like to delegate, I think that the benefits are not in balance with the reward, that is, if I delegate my voting power I will not be able to help other people, therefore I will not read to share my opinion in different posts that could teach me, contribute something useful, another issue is that we become lazy, we receive rewards, so the work is less and even bad, conclusion motivates us but economically, nothing else matters, something regrettable since it is not the objective of the panel.
In relation to the help of a whale, it is something that motivates any user, it is visualized by a user with a lot of voting power, this would be great for any of us, it motivates more than receiving and receiving rewards without effort, the whale helps and motivates to work better and with quality

Yes, it is true in your words and I agree the more manual curation will be done with using our own Steem Power the more motivation and interest people will have often we just need a bit of chat exchanging ideas and just saying Hello while visiting the blogs of others. That makes us feel that people reading the post and it is not like written and forgotten.

The more users with high SP we will have the better for the whole Steemit community, but there will be always people who do not want to grow slowly and naturally but would like to get their profit quicker and that is another way of it Upvotebots for delegation, it is very tempting when someone has so much SP and also when someone can see how much they ear on daily basis. I believe that is simply very human feature and we are all not exclusion.

A topic that is very important and worth discussing. And as a good Steemian, it's necessary to express our thoughts on this.

Honestly, if I share my thoughts on this, you will be surprised to know that a few months ago, due to unemployment, I had considered using upvote bots and converted my savings into Steem (so that I could cover my kitchen expenses through investments). And naturally, everyone thinks about their own benefits. But my conscience didn't feel right about profiting from my Steem.

That's why I prefer to focus on the quality of my content and earn rewards rather than relying on delegation. And supporting others with my Steem power, (even if it's just a few cents), gives me peace of mind. Because, in my opinion, this is the right approach. These are my thoughts, and everyone else has their own dealings, thinking, and investments. They can do as they please. And now, Steemit has given curators the choice to upvote users based on content quality, so upvote bots can also be used.

But I will say this again, if your small upvote can become a ray of hope for someone (writer) and encourage them to create good content, then it's better not to use upvote bots.

That's how I feel. I'm not trying to game the system, I want genuine feedback. Me upvoting myself a million times is meaningless compared to a single person who actually read and liked my post. So a simple acknowledgement of your existence and some nice words can go a long way. Besides, astroturfing(?) your numbers stops you from growing organically. You have to keep doing it or that house of cards just collapses into itself.

Yes, sometimes we have to make a decision and decide what is better for us at the moment and unfortunately, there are some moments when we need something for our life that is also so important and Steem that we earned is something that allows to make it easy. The whole idea of blogging and earning is great. Of course, investors will think about less work for them, often they just might not have enough time for blogging. As you mentioned, quality content will also cost time and ideas to make something special so that curators could notice that kind of post. I believe for big investors it is not really relevant, but what is relevant for Steemians that less Steem will be circulating on market. At the end if that happens and Steem goes up, we all benefit no matter if investors of content producers. Both are valuable members for Steem platform.

I think we should pay attention to the whole Steem eco-system and make sure that everyone co-exist with each other because both are contributing with their part.

Thank you for your input, It was interesting to know your opinion.

Your explanation about upvote bots was very helpful to me. But now I have a question in my mind. There are some big curators who give post votes in exchange for Steem. Are they also included in the category of upvote bots or do they have a separate category? And what advice would you give to writers regarding this?

Because I have seen many users on this platform sending their post links to some curators along with Steem, and then their posts get voted on. I want to ask what are the rules and regulations of the Steemit Team regarding this? Please guide me.

Actually there are two different way of getting more payout for hte posts:

  • first, one a user has much Steem Power and delegates that to "Delegate for Upvote" system, such as @upvu and Co. This is what Investors use, because for delegation they receive daily upvotes and do not really pay attention what they post, because the Upvotes comes no matter you post. Of course, that can slowly spoil user and contribute that they may post something without paying attention to its quality. Understandably not everyone is posting rubbish but it is something that could happen

  • another way is when user does not have big Steem Power that he could delegate, then he can pay Steem and buy upvote, it depends how much you pay, for example this user paid 104 Steem and you can see there should be link to the post:

And, he received this for his post:

I actually do not know if they benefit from this second system, when the posts generate SBD then they may benefit from it but only with Steem definitely less.

Overall "delegate for Upvote" bring more than the second way for investors. Both of them will be considered as Upvotebots

I am very very thankful to you for providing such a detailed answer. This has certainly added to my knowledge and that of many other users.

The weight is reduced because of the lack of Voting Power. If you vote for me as a witness, you can get my little vote.

You have written so well about delegation, its merits and demerits. Truly, delegation helps us to stake our Steem through consistent power up because they more your SP the more your upvotes. I support the motion that quality articles which has less upvote should be supported as well as it will also encourage the users despite their delegation. To me delegation makes users Stake more of their Steem which helps to reduce the circulation in the exchanges and that helps to push the price upward.

Superb. I also don't know about upvotebots. Now I came to know. Such an informative post.I like reading your quality post 🍀❤️
