"But it takes so long!"
"It's too difficult to do!"
When it came to doing yoga, you may have had thoughts like that, or you may have heard someone else say things like that.
In this blog post, I'm basically going to mythbust the two biggest excuses that's stopping people from doing yoga.
Myth #1: Yoga Sessions Are Long
The length of a yoga session really depends on what you're doing.
At a yoga class or studio, you might spend at least 30 minutes to an hour.
At home, it really depends on you.
If you're busy, you can do short sessions that are around 10-15 minutes long, and still reap all the benefits.
And of course, if you're not so busy, and you want a good workout, you can have a session that lasts 30 minutes or longer, for a good days' full workout.
Me, personally, I prefer doing short 15-minute sessions.
Even with just 15-minute sessions, I'm able to notice the good effects lasting pretty long, sometimes even all day.
It helped me sleep better and made me feel happier.
You can improve your emotional well-being through continued practice of yoga.
Studies have shown that, people who practiced yoga regularly for more than 30 minutes, had improved their health, mental abilities and had a more positive outlook.
So, whenever you're feeling down, you can start feeling better, even after just a short session.
Myth #2: Yoga Is Difficult
Yoga is gentle & easy, compared to many other forms of exercises.
You don't need expensive or special equipment to start.
All you need is a quiet room, away from any distractions, and a yoga mat.
No matter what age, or what level of fitness you're at, you can start yoga at anytime.
An important thing to note is that, before you start any exercise plan, including yoga, its always a great idea to get the doctors' ok.
Yoga, in a way, is also about improving your confidence.
Checking with your doctor if yoga is suitable for you, will help you feel more confident in what you're doing.
How Can Yoga Help You?
Today, people are using Yoga to prevent & treat various illnesses, including serious one's such as diabetes and obesity.
Yoga has been proven to help reduce symptoms of diseases such as back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and even arthritis.
If you're trying to prevent or treat an illness, chances are, Yoga can help you improve your condition.
Research has shown that yoga helps people with improving cognitive functions such as memory and thinking skills. Also, Yoga can help prevent Alzheimer's.
You can use yoga to help you remember better, think more clearly and improve your focus on things.
Conclusion To This Blog Series
Yoga, a practice with ancient roots, is beneficial for a healthy life, even in modern times.
Its combination of physical, mental & relaxation techniques are effective in preventing and treating chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, anxiety & depression.
However, Yoga is more than just simply exercise.
Yoga, is a lifestyle.
There's just something so satisfying about seeing your own yoga mat rolled up - the fact that it's easy to carry around, which again makes you feel that you can do yoga anywhere - at home, in the park, a garden... or maybe even by the sea, a lake or on a beautiful mountain - it just makes you feel inspired.
All that while also realizing you're doing one of the most beautiful things you can do, which is you're taking care of yourself.
And all of that creates this wonderful flow of refreshing feelings.
I hope this helped you understand what yoga is all about.
