I mentioned this in a few of my previous blogs that I will doing the Everest Base Camp Trek next month. It is a very important journey of my life and long awaited. Not an easy one this time but I am preparing myself well for this Trek. I will be travelling to Nepal and then starting my Trek from Lukla which will start at 9300 ft and then over a span of 8 days trek up to 17500 ft to Everest Base Camp.
I have been connecting with a lot of people who have been there trekking and from them I understand that the most challenging part of this trek is the climate. I will be taking 2 days halt at intervals to get myself acclimatized with the climate, specially at the higher altitudes.
To prepare myself for the journey daily I have been spending 2 hours of all different types of fitness regimes. I have been doing 25 floors steps daily so that the core muscles of my legs are strengthened. This was a tip given to me by one of trekker, to practice steps as many as possible. I can see the difference, it is helping me a lot. Initially my legs ached too much but now I am comfortable. I spend 40 minutes on Yoga and 20 minutes on breathing exercises. This is going to be the most crucial one as the level of my breadth will be put to test up there. I also spend 45 minutes on the thread mill on a incline of 10. I want to practice climbing as much as possible.
On the trek it's going to be daily 5 to 6 hours of uphill climbing which will require strength and if I have not practiced enough then it will be a problem. I am doing this solo trip, so all the more I want to be well prepared. Even after all the preparations the real experience will bring challenges. Preparing for the exam and giving the exam are two different things, you do not know what will come in the question paper. So it is the same for me as well with this. I will prepare myself well. 5th May is the big day.
I am so eagerly looking forward to this solo adventure and at the same time as the date is getting nearer I am feeling nervous also. I am not scared but I am feeling anxious. It's going to be challenging and a very different type of solo adventure for me which I have never done it before. All these small treks for a day is common but doing this 8 days I am sure will bring it's own challenges. I also have a weight limitation, which is my biggest concern. Because at the top it's going to be extremely cold and I will have to carry warmers which will add up to the weight. For the first time I am actually weighing every single piece of clothing and item that I will be taking to ensure that I do not exceed the weight.
This one is going to be the biggest challenge of my life till now. Once I do this then next I am not sure what is going to be my goal. I want to test my limits here on this one first and then plan for future adventures.
