There's a constant need to achieve very specific goals focused on an internal or external locus, reinforced by our inner monologue and various cognitive distortions that make us believe that we are failures if we don't achieve what we have (or others have) set out for us.
Why is it that we label ourselves as lost immediately after we have taken a few tumbles or changed directions?
Every path that you have consciously decided to take is a path that will eventually lead you to a better self, even if you find forks in the road or have to turn back because you figured out that a past turn was better for your journey.
Big goals tend to overwhelm once we see how much we have left to achieve them - which is why we must set stepping stones for ourselves. The continuous internal motivation you get from those imperceptible-to-anyone-else-but-you achievements will keep you working towards whatever you want to work towards be it a concrete goal or just a being a decent human being but more importantly will keep your heart and head healthy.
