We all have a "similar" to-do list at the top of our to-do list of things we want to do: go to the gym, modify our budget, cook, and so on.
I was excited to join the self-improvement majority when I first started reading on Medium, and I tried to construct a mental list of things I wanted to accomplish to make it a reality.
It's the equivalent of getting up at six a.m. every day, taking a cold shower, going to the gym every day, and writing something every day. I made the decision to complete all of them.
None of the things I was adamant about doing (promised) lasted longer than a week.
My issue wasn't one of laziness or a lack of self-control. There is no such thing as lazy, according to experts. My issue was that I had a lot of cognitive load on a regular basis.
My working memory was like a cluttered chamber; there was no place in my thoughts for pledges like "go to the gym every day" or "cook," thus none of those bold promises came true.
In reality, the thing that kept spinning my life around the same point; the main thing was to delete things that didn't change, rather than to add things that did.
Before deleting the non-essential items from my life, I made no adjustments to the mental list I had established. Nonetheless, I found myself starting to accomplish the things on my list on the spur of the moment. What's the best part? The fact that I started doing these things without exerting any willpower. Now that I go to the gym three to five times per week, I never tell myself, "I'm going to make a promise to go to the gym." I used to have more mental room. It was only a matter of time until I did it.
So the must-have list isn't a list of things to accomplish, but rather a list of things to get rid of, a list of releasing mental and emotional energy so you can focus on what matters to you.
I've always wanted to try watercolour painting. Watercolor paintings pique my interest, and I wish my dream home included watercolour paintings on every wall.
It's difficult for me to get out and practise watercolours when my clothes are strewn across the floor and my desk is crowded with papers and books. That is, if you have a lot of challenging things in front of you, you won't be able to find the motivation to do anything else.
The majority of clutter issues arise as a result of possessing too much things. Everything you own should be kept clean and put away. The more clean things you have to keep and store, the more difficult it is to stay clean. Getting rid of them will lessen the quantity of cleaning you have to perform for the rest of your life.
Tidiness is even scientifically supported: studies have shown that persons who work in cluttered situations are less productive than those who operate in clean environments.
For instance, we all have clothes that we seldom wear; collect those things and donate them to a charity. Alternatively, go through all of your papers and select which ones can be scanned and recycled (or just recycled).
Any editing (keeping it tidy) you undertake today is a cleanup you'll never have to do again.
I don't think it's necessary to point up how much time we spend on social media. We do this to ourselves as a civilization. It is, however, easier to declare that you spend less time on social media than it is to say that you spend more time on social media. It's difficult for everyone who wants to spend less time on social media.
You may modify the settings of the notifications you receive from social media so that they are less online, which is the key to spending less time on social media.
