Over Exposing your Life on Social Media

in socialmedia •  2 years ago

Some people like to put up every single aspect of their life on Social Media. They put up pictures of what they eat, drink, use in their homes, including pictures of their home, family, children, what new things they bought. But is it safe to put up so much of your personal information on Social Media, especially platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Cyber-crime rates have gone up drastically. People get victim on social media sites through strangers and lose their whole wealth over frauds.

These Social Media sites are for entertainment purpose or promoting your business. Once in a while it is good to share your life with your friends and strangers but sharing every bit of your life can get dangerous. Why would you want the whole world to know what's happening in your home. It is your space so better keep it secret with you.

Initially when Facebook had started, I too had got carried away and I would put up many things there but yes, I would not put-up things about my children or home. But to an extent I liked showing off where I went and all. But gradually with time I realized how unhealthy that was. I was attracting many unknown people who were somewhere trying to take advantage seeing my good lifestyle on social media. Other thing I fail to understand is people from the same family wishing on Birthdays and Anniversaries on Social Media. Why can't they just wish in person and keep it a family affair rather than letting the whole world know what the partner or the child means to them. I have told my Son on Mother's day or Birthday or any other day, if you want to wish me do it in person or if I am not around call me up, but do not this social medial photo thing write a long essay.

Knowingly or unknowingly, we put ourselves in danger by putting too much of our personal life information on social media sites. I watched this movie The Tinder Swindler, it's a real-life story and these things happen a lot. The guy attracts the girls showing a very flashy lifestyle and then he loots them with all their wealth. Which is another thing. Do not believe all that you see on Social Media. A lot of it can be made up. You do not know the real picture hence it is not advisable to blindly trust people who you get along with on social media and reveal any of your financial information.

I guess the future times will be scarier with all of this. The number of Cyber-crimes will increase. It is best to keep your personal life secret as much as possible and not reveal too much private information about you and your family. You never know how one can use that against you. Better be safe than sorry.

You have given a very wonderful message in your post. I never really felt that I am sharing everything with strangers. I think the main reason for this is to introduce myself.

I couldn't agree more with your post. People lose the gist of their life by putting it on social media instead of savoring it offline. They are like tourists incessantly taking photos of places they visit instead of enjoying the scenery.

It is absolutely true that revealing your private life on the networks is a total danger. Here in Venezuela it is much more dangerous, especially because of the almost zero level of justice and a great police and military corruption. No police or military official can be trusted because they are worse than common criminals. Thus in this environment of the networks there have been cases of kidnappings and extortions, even directed from prisons and the government does practically nothing, since many of its officials are participants and have turned kidnapping and extortion into a big business.

At home we have the networks in private and we take care of putting privileged information that can be used by these criminals to extort you without caring about your economic position.

Thank you for sharing your post and making us see a little of the reality of your country.
