"What's that" is what I hear all day from my two year old Little Rabbit. She toddles around the house like a wild child and periodically stops to point at something and say "What's that?" It's so much fun watching her learn language. Today she learned the word "door." Yesterday, she said the word "snow" when she heard me calling our cat Snowman. It's crazy how fast she is developing.
The greatest moment of being a parent was last week when I told Little Rabbit "I love you" and she responded "you too." I was so tickled. I kept telling her" I love you too" and she'd try to say it. She couldn't quite make all the words and finally just settled on responding "you too." It makes my heart melt to have her respond to my "I love you's."
Little Rabbit is obsessed with Minnie Mouse and Peppa Pig. If I put Peppa Pig on the TV she'll go nuts and start reenacting what the little pigs are doing on the show. I'll hear her snorting like a pig and she'll pretend to jump in mud puddles like they do on the show. It's fun seeing her reenact what she's seeing the pigs do because it shows she's aware of her body and has an imagination.
Right now I'm "daddy."
When I come into a room she is in she'll stop and wave and say "hi daddy." Oh course I'm not a man and I keep saying it's "hi mommy" but she doesn't understand the concept of different names yet. Every single cat she sees is called Poe because that's the first name for a cat she learned and she thinks that is what you call cats. "Daddy" is both me and her father. It's cute. It'll be nice when she finally learns "mommy" but I'll take "hi daddy's" because its the first time she's given me a name she conscientiously calls me.
A Cookie Break
It's such a fun time to be a parent to Little Rabbit. She's so cute. Even her temper tantrums are adorable. With the growing ability to talk and critically think also comes the tantrums. When she is mad about something she will walk all the way to her room and throw herself in the doorway and will kick and yell. Her tantrums are very delayed because she has to walk to her room to tantrum.
Every time Little Rabbit asks "What's that" I give her a word and I point to the object I think she is looking at. I want her to learn and every question she asks is a chance to teach her something. Sometimes she repeats the word and sometimes she ignores me. Sometimes when she is getting into trouble she'll say "what's that" and point towards something in the distance...Yes, she is learning how to try to distract my attention so I don't pay attention to what naughty thing she's doing. She's a smart little thing.
I look forward to future developmental milestones and having the ability to have a conversation with her someday. I wonder what she's going to have to say to me about Peppa Pig and Minnie Mouse. It'll be so much fun hearing the words she makes her toys say to one another as she plays. It'll be nice to finally be called mommy instead of daddy.
