Mountain Life - A Quick Update

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

Gooey-Goo as someone would say, hey dog!

About a week ago me, my husband @matt-a, @robrigo and another friend of ours Alex packed our stuff and took a trip down south to Eastern Kentucky.
The ride from Detroit to our destination point is about 9 hours, long and tiring. Sometimes I'm glad that I cannot drive otherwise I would have to spend so much time behind the wheel on a freeway... freeways are scary haha. Anyways, early in the morning we made it to @tommyinthesun's place where we currently reside.

I haven't checked out the forest as deep as I would like to, but that is on the list :) so far so good, except . . .

I hate bugs.

I've been getting eaten alive by bugs and mosquitoes, it feels like the forest lives its own life, it's like a huge megalopolis, there's always something going on, you can hear it and if you're lucky enough, you can see it too. I found it pretty hard to spot any wild animals so far, apparently when I was harvesting some blackberries the other day, a family of deer walked by right near me, I didn't even hear them or see them :( I am hoping to see them though.

But hey, look at these berries!

This is what my country breakfast looked like this morning, it was pretty good: a handful of blueberries, some Kashi cereal and vanilla yogurt.

A few days ago we went to so called Cold Springs, you can collect water from the mountains there, filter it and drink, or just drink it if you're really thirsty. Those springs aren't too far from where we're staying, so we can go anytime we feel like it. Here is a preview of what you may encounter on your way, ain't she pretty?!

I wish I took more pictures to share but that is yet to come, we have a few more things on the list to do down here.

It is so dark in the woods, I'm excited to spend a night out there and make a fire haha. Damn! I wish I had that powder you can put in it to make it colorful, where would one buy it anyway? Maybe on Amazon? It is actually my go-to place for nearly everything.

It isn't easy to keep my blog updated as often as I'd like to being in the middle of Appalachian Mountains, but I am going to try my very best to post as much as possible, so keep your eyes peeled!

Here in a few days we plan on going hiking to Birch Knob Observation Tower, I hope we make it, so I can share this adventure with y'all :).

Foot-Foot is being a g0od cat for a change :D

By the way, she didn't come with us to Kentucky, although she has been here before just as the rest of our cats, this time we decided to let them enjoy having the house to themselves kinda haha.

When I used to pick blackberries in the wild, I would usually get some chiggers. Also watch out for the ticks!

I hate all bugs! There are too many in the woods :(

Yup! great photography by the way keep sharing :)

Thank you, I'll try my best to update more often while I'm away from home!

Brilliant location and photography - and the cats adorable!

Everyone loves them kitties! Thank you @madstacks!

Wow! That sounds like fun! My kind of trip!

Hey, I am closer to you than ever before now haha
Thank you!

Yeah! Pretty cool!

You're welcome!

Nice post :DD Do you use iphone to take these photos? @kotturinn

Thank you! I took the picture of berries with my Samsung Galaxy S7, the rest of the photos were taken with Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

Thanks for the upvote.

Nice info on your trip like the pictures. Hope you have a great time. I am following you and waiting for your hiking trip.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I'm pretty excited about it, I haven't hiked in the mountains of Kentucky before!

Ooh- good find on the berries! I hope the mosquitoes don't devour you! I hate those little guys! Have a great rest of your trip while your cats are throwing a house party ;)

Oh the cats are hating it, we are used to be let outside in the yard and the cat sitter sint allowed to let them out, they are so pissed right now!
I'm pretty excited about the rest of our stay, hopefully I get to take a few good shots!
Thank you :)

These are some incredible pictures! I loved your work!

Happy to hear that @firepower! Thank you!!!

@kotturinn - I like your post. Full of nature, amazing shots and well described!

Thanks a lot @cryptou33n! I tried :)

I bought that fire coloring at walmart and gave it to my nephews, they liked it.. It was in the camping section! Tell Rob, that I still think his alien mascot was the dopest haha!! Ohhh and I think I have an EOS sticker in the mail. Other people are mentioning they have theirs! WOOT! So tell Matt thanks for me too! Looks like you guys are having a fun adventure so far though..Have fun and stay safe you all, may the bugs not notice you haha!!

Oh yeah, thank you for the Walmart tip :)

Really? That's cool! I don't know if he mailed them all out or not, he might have haha.
What is the alien mascot? I'm not familiar with that haha

Dooooh, wrong person lol, it was not him who made the alien mascot. And at least he mailed some, that's a start haha! But woot, enjoy your trip, hope you catch some shots of wild animals!

Oh haha! I hope I can take some photos of them too, I saw a deer yesterday but I didn't even have my phone on me at the time, what a misfortune!

That's awesome! I'm looking at cool places for us to camp out, and this looks nice! Good pictures too.

It's funny reading that you hate bugs, can't drive yet, and love berries. The same applies to @alovelymess. Haha!

Thank you! We wanna go hiking here soon, don't know when though, I am pretty excited about it, hopefully I can spot some wild life!

Yeah, we girls hate insects! Well, most of us do haha

Those blackberries look AMAZING! And that shot of your breakfast looks like it came right out of a Kashi commercial. lol Fantastic!
Sounds like a really cool place to be! Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures. :)
Do your cats hold grudges? Mine used to get so pissed with us when we would go away for a weekend or something. They wouldn't let us pet them for the first few hours we were home, just sit across from us and stare at us. lol Weirdos.

Hahaha! This is funny, cats are little weirdos! I wanna think they miss us, but they probably are just pissed because the house sitter isn't allowed to let them out haha.
Thank you very much for the comment and positive feedback! I'm pretty excited about this trip it's my first time to Kentucky during summer time!

Stunning pictures as always! Those berries look so yum!

Thank you Amy!!!! Speaking of which I probably should go check on them again, there's probably new ones already haha
