The Beginning Of The Yeongsanjae Ritual In Bongwonsa Temple.

in travel •  7 years ago

It was hot weather when the ritual was performed.
People were waiting for the beginning of the ritual.
Even though it was 10 am in the morning, it was getting hotter.
Everything was ready for the ritual.

Finally the ritual began, "the receiving souls" was was the first procedure.
I didn’t know how this ritual would be proceeded.

They marched to meet the souls.

They arrived at the place to meet the souls.

The place to meet the souls was several hundred meters from the main stage.

When I followed the marching and arrived at the place for receiving the souls all around of the world.
So many photographers were waiting for the marching people and the ceremony.

The place was narrow so I could not take the best place for the photo.

The ceremony began with Buddhist songs which had the unique attractive rhythm.

Monks were dancing with the bronze bowls.

I don’t know what the meaning of the dance, but monks were very serious.
Their serious face look was so touching.

The dance was not just a dance, the dance looked like a religious discipline for me.

Even in my region there are ancient rituals that are repeated. Very suggestive Easter or carnival ones ...

It is a colorful ritual @slowwalker but for me it is their way to appease things that are not seen like the departed or the ancestors. It makes the culture of Koreans very distinct and thus making the lives of Koreans colorful as well.

That's a very interesting ceremony.
What does it actually mean by receiving souls, do they call and connect with the departed souls. I am quite curious to know what is the reason for this ceremony.
The pictures are awesome.
Monks seem to have transported in to another dimension.

What an interesting ritual. Your photos really capture the realism. One thing I have always liked about religion in Korea is how peacefully everyone gets along. There is a lot of religious diversity around and everyone cooperates so well. Thanks for introducing and teaching about this aspect of Buddism.

The trip in Korea certainly must be a wonderful experience, for all the things you've learned during your stay the photos are really great I love, your work is excellent thank you for sharing

show great to enjoy,@slowwalker,☺️

A deep impressing post @slowwalker,
it seems like the monks are in a kind of trance..
Thank you very much and have a wonderful day

Hi @slowwalker for the nice tour. I don't know much about Buddhism thanks for making me know a little things with pictures. I'd like to know which country Bongwonsa Temple is located

So cool to see such a beautiful Culture that is different from my own :)

매번 이렇게 각 지역의 다양한 문화재들을 올리시는게 정말 노고가 많으실 것 같습니다. 잘 보고 갑니다.

Beautiful ceremony. I like how you described the dance to be like a "religious discipline".

One should always follow its ritual, it helps them to be on track.. Long time have not met you.. How are you sir ??

Amazing tour @slowwalker these monks are very serious and they concentrate on the depth of this process congratulation you got this chance.

I wish we would have rituals and celebrations like this here in germany. The closest thing we have to that would be carnival, but let us not talk about this.

Interesting and colorful ceremony. As always, your photographs are very good, inviting...
