Please let me know if this is normal for new Vegans…
Revolution from withinI woke up on day 3 of my Vegan September and could not imagine eating meat. I genuinely thought that the first few days would be the most difficult. As I mentioned last time, I am a regularly gym-goer and I used to eat meat at least twice a day for the last few years.
It was as though a switch has been flicked in my mind. Whilst I am not saying that I will never eat meat again, I know that after this month the volume of animal-based products I consume will be significantly reduced. Is this normal for people transitioning into Veganism, is the worst yet to come?
Can you stay strong whilst Vegan!?
I feel less lethargic and more energized than I used to. Again this seems counter-intuitive but I can only speak from my own experience. I have had more energy at the gym and have not found my diet to be protein deficient. I have invested in Vegan Protein supplement but as the name suggests, this is purely supplemental.
I would like to give a little thanks here to @quinneaker @veganrambles and @amy-goodrich for the excellent Vegan content that they have posted recently. You have helped me and many others I am sure!
All the alternatives
Finally, this transition has been made far easier by the quality and diversity of the Vegan alternatives that I have found. It was an emotional moment when I found vegan halloumi.
This product by Violife (bought in a UK supermarket) is a delicious alternative to my favourite grilled cheese.
I am now 12 days down and confident that I am ready to take on the next 18 days. Again, please recommend both delicious recipes and easy on-the-go snacks and you will hear from me next time!
Thanks @alexmavor! I'm glad to be of any help. We go to the gym every day and are living on plants 99 percent of our time. We haven't felt better in our entire life. And yes, eating more plants definitely makes you crave them even more. I have experienced the same thing... and my hubby too. He was a huge carnivore and now he loves our plant-based dishes. Keep up the good work... even if you decide to eat meat again I'm sure your diet will be filled with a lot of plant-based meals because they are so good right?

Your experiences are somewhat consistent with my family's, although we're still learning what's the new "regular," for our bodies. We went totally raw just 30 days ago, and it was a game changer. We anticipated extra energy and vibrancy throughout this time, but we've encountered a bit of fatigue lately, to be honest. Maybe this tiredness is related to external factors. We're not sure. Ordinary waves, I imagine. My skin is glowing, though. And I feel very connected to the natural surroundings. Some special shifts are happening in my life, and I feel confident that our vegan raw food diet is a catalyst for the positive changes.

Totally believe you can make it!
@amy-goodrich is 99% plant based eater and has very nice recipies.
@quinneaker has also very interesting dishes in @gardenofeaden (so is @sarahmiller who is a yoggi) - not always vegan; nontheless very interesting.
The most important thing is ingredients. If your ingredients don't have chemistry, you are half way there..

Hats off to you.... I meet many vegans and something that regularly pops up is the statement "The only thing I regret about veganism is not doing it sooner".
Once you find your feet and get used to new and exciting foods you will be well on your way. I committed to veganism 3 years ago, I remember for the first few weeks every time I made an impressive new meal I'd slam the plate down and exclaim "Boom! Who needs meat"?
3 years on and since my housemate is vegan, his girlfriend, his 2 kids, my mum & my 2 kids.... I suspect we all make the best decisions we can with the knowledge we have assimilated at that time. Veganism ticks all the boxes, its a no brainer for me.
Thanks for welcoming me into the world of Steemit, I really appreciate it, also its given me a tighter focus here as if you need information on veganism then I can squirrel away and provide the many tips and tricks I've picked up over the last few years.
Something that really helped me was calling these 'foods' what they really are... ie 'Milk' became 'cow pus' as there can legally be over 400 million pus cells (somatic cells) allowed to every litre of milk....And bacon became piglet flesh etc... Although initially off putting, it represents what theses things really are, opposed to the sales names they are presented through.
You know Mr Universe a few years back is vegan Barny du Plessis, he does OK ;)

I think the first few days of any change is rough. :) I think you are making the best out of it though. Trust me, it will get much easier.

Hey @alexmavor, here I am checking out your blog :) It seem like you are doing pretty great. I’m glad that you are not giving up, especially because you are a sports guy :) Of course you can do sports and be vegan at the same time :D I am and my very good friend is a national champion in bodybuilding (and she is a girl!) and she is 100% vegan :P She doesn’t take any special supplements, just some plant based proteins after workouts. Anyhow make sure to eat properly and to eat enough and everything will be just fine. If you are feeling a little out of energy just don’t give up. It takes some time for your body to adjust.
Oh and I published a new recipe, If you want you can check it out :)
Have a nice day!
