“Michael Gorbachev” by @stef1

Hello dear Art Fans,

It was 30th of August 2022 when the world heard the news, that the ex-leader of ex Soviet Union Michael Gorbachev passed away.

When I think back I remember that time of being in school when he came to power. He completely changed everything, the whole system of USSR was existing for many years but it was the time when it was obvious that it is not possible to keep the Independent Republics together as Soviet Union. The Baltic republics wanted to leave, Central Asian countries wanted to leave and it was not enough of resources.

The name of Gorbachev will always associate with Freedom for many ex-Soviet Union countries but for others it will be the disintegration of Soviet Union.

He made it possible to improve the relationship of Western countries towards Soviet Union and made it possible for many to be able to travel freely abroad.

In Germany, people also have respect for Gorbachev, because did not influence when the Berlin wall fall and everything went without any event and smooth.

In my opinion he was the right man but in wrong time at power. People were not ready. I think if it would be now, then everything would be different.

As my respect to that extra-ordinary man I decided to do his watercolour painting.

really nice work.

Thank you @steem-agora for your nice words, glad you like it :)

Woh, this is good @stef1!

I was a bit unsure if I will be able to do this portrait because of shadow on one side but it came quite nicely :)

That is the problem in politics, these great characters do not arrive on time or we believe that it is not enough time on earth, good painting, a question? Perhaps you have already answered and I have not read, but what do you do with your works from the political or entertainment world?

Cheers!

Hi @lanegra2804, I have sent one to the First minister of Scotland. unfortunately have not heard anything. I also have one of Boris Johnson but still have not sent not sure if he will just bin it :)

I think it's great that you send him, I would feel very flattered that he did such a beautiful work, I doubt they despise him, but I imagine that everything is a protocol.

thanks for answering

It confirms that you are an excellent portraitist.

I love portraits, many like the human faces. Of course female portraits are preferable but on and off I do male too. Thank you :)

Great portrait!!

Thank you Jorge, I actually was planning to do already then when I heard that he passed away but did nto have time as usual. Thank you, glad to hear your opinion.

A deeply despised man in his own country

Yes, I know but it is a shame, without him many of us would have no opportunity to travel abroad and choose where to go and live.

So sad he didn't die in prison

I agree. He was born at the wrong time... I didn't know that Gorbachev had passed away.

It's a bit sad compared to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth of England.

My condolences...

Anyway... I love his portrait.

I actually found it accidentally while watching some documentary channel where there were some movies about him. It is really a shame. He lived last years in a small apartment seems to be very sad and lonely. he had more people who respected him in West.

I am glad that you like my painting :)

Russian President Putin is said to be a hero in Russia. I wondered how a person who killed innocent people like that could become a hero, but since the ideology is different, it must be so. History will judge.

He is acting as a dictators, those who are not for him will be locked in prison. He started good initially, but spoiled everything because of his greediness and now even killing the nations because of their ethnicity. More people raises their voices and hope that will help to stop him.

Your painting is very beautiful stef1 (76) how are you, seef1 healthy, long time no news from you stef1 greetings to you stef1 from master village..

Thank you for nice words :)
