It will be incredibly tough for you to achieve the pinnacle of your performance in business if you do not have a real manager to lean on.
How do you run your life and how do you control yourself? Do you consider yourself to be a person with a high level of accountability? Or are you still pretending to be three monkeys and live as if you have no idea who you are?
I don't know about you, but I'm having severe issues with this. Okay, I'm a big dreamer with a lot of amazing ideas. However, I am a complete slacker. Isn't that bad?
However, an idea occurred to me the other day. What if I made the decision to be "my own boss"? Is it possible for me to buck the trend? What do you think? It doesn't seem like a bad concept at all.
Despite what the multibillion-dollar executive education industry asserts, I don't believe managing is simple (and I'm not claiming it is). A good manager inspires, supports, and holds employees accountable. As you can see, it is critical that each individual - including ourselves - take real efforts to be motivated, manage his or her life effectively, or become accountable.
We become so engrossed in the minutiae of daily life that we lose sight of why we're here, what we want, and, most importantly, what we value. So, how about finding a way to incorporate your beliefs into what you do and how you manage your life, thereby increasing your accountability? You should then craft your own personal mission statement.
“To live simply and unselfishly, and to work with care towards financial independence and the opportunities that freedom opens up for me,” is my personal mission.
This line should reflect your basic principles and clearly define why you should do what you do. It doesn't have to be complex or poetic to express your own goal. (Hint: Having problems coming up with a mission statement that works for your current job or life? Perhaps it's time for a change!)
It's a good idea to write down your objectives, no matter how big or small they are. Annual, five-year, or ten-year goals might help you expand your mission statement because you'll know you're making progress toward a certain outcome. Long-term goals, on the other hand, are pointless unless you have a plan in place to achieve them. As a result, you should develop micro goals to help you manage your time.
What is the definition of a micro target? I like to think of this concept as a single action that, once accomplished, will help you achieve a broader goal.
It's a micro goal, for example, if you decide to pay your credit card bill significantly more than the minimum monthly payment. You will be significantly closer to your debt relief goal—the big goal—if you successfully increase your payment amount each month.
We may use the example of planning an important customer meeting to illustrate micro-targeting in business. The first and most accurate step you can take toward the objective of forming a valued business relationship or enhancing existing ones is to meet all of the prerequisites for the meeting in issue.
Every night or every Friday, the most successful people I know go through their to-do lists. They're looking into what they've accomplished so far, as well as what they haven't. It is possible to use the same approach in situations other than work. You should set aside a certain amount of time each week to reflect on your actions. This week, how did your eating habits go? Did you get enough exercise this month? What about your outgoings? Did you keep to your spending plan? So, what can you do better next week for yourself?
