Is Perfectionism A Blessing or a Burden?

All humans have an inherent desire to achieve perfection. On the other hand, the reasons behind this quest are somewhat complicated and can be impacted by a wide variety of diverse situations.

The inclination to have high expectations, to want everything to be perfect, and sometimes even to strive for perfection is what is often referred to as perfectionism. This exemplifies a circumstance in which an individual has high expectations of both oneself and the place in which they find themselves.

One of the reasons that many people struggle with perfectionism is because they are looking for acceptance and praise. The pursuit of perfection is lauded in our culture, and the term "success" is sometimes used interchangeably with "achieving perfect results."

Consequently, a person who displays perfectionist behaviours does so with the expectation of receiving favourable feedback from others who are in their immediate vicinity.

On the other hand, during the procedure, a person may frequently exhaust oneself and be forced to deal with unfavourable feelings such as tension and anxiety.

Perfectionism can be conquered through a variety of means. First and foremost, it is essential to alter one's internal monologue and to be more compassionate towards oneself. It is essential to acknowledge that making errors is an inherent aspect of the human condition and to gain knowledge from those errors. In addition to this, it is essential to maintain fair expectations and to refrain from always aiming for ultimate perfection. If one adopts a healthy lifestyle and lives a happy life, this can be of assistance to them.

Therapy provides yet another method for embracing the fact that mistakes are inevitable and becoming more forgiving of them.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an effective technique of therapy that assists individuals in being aware of their inner experiences, accepting those experiences, and coping with them in a healthy manner.

CBT can assist a person in better understanding themselves and coming to terms with their imperfections, which can help them overcome perfectionism.

Although it is probable that perfectionism is a part of human nature, it is still feasible to comprehend and exercise control over this behaviour.

Having a more compassionate attitude towards ourselves, maintaining fair expectations, and acknowledging that making errors is an inevitable aspect of being human may all contribute to a happier and healthier life.

It is not about striving for perfection; rather, it is about embracing who we are and making gradual progress towards improvement.
